Question on Streetporting

Hi,

i'm not sure what to do now. will let my engine rebuild next month and i'm considering a street port but i've not decided yet if i want one or not. i read a lot of threads here but couldn't find an answer. My car is engine wise fairly stock except the catback (with jdm downpipe) and i don't want to change anything at least the next 2 years. After that i'm planing a bnr stage 3 conversion and therefor the street port could be helpful i think. what i want to know now is:

- Does a streetport increase power on stock system without any changes?
- Does a streetport affects emission values?
- Does a streetport makes the car louder? (i read a brigdeport sounds like a v8 ... my car is really silent and i like that)
- Does a streeport affects reliability of the engine?
- Any other pros/cons of a streetport with stock system?
- Do i need to port the intake ports only or also the exhaust ports?

it would be annyoing to take the engine apart again when i start to tune the car ...

thanks for answers.

Take a look here

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe it is a good idea to port an engine without tuning it...

Basically, there is no right or wrong answers. You need to decide what is best for your goals and situation.

thanks, but i already read this. to decide whats best in my situation i need to get those questions answered. for example if the emissions get worse, i can't pass the technical inspections here ... if i need a retune i would also keep stock ports.

Putting a street port on a rotary is like using aftermarket performance camshaft(s) and heads on a piston engine. The first thing you will notice is a weaker vacuum signal and rougher idle. Since the FD uses a MAP sensor for load calculations (speed density) the fuel maps will need to be redone. All things held equal your emissions will get worse, but that doesn't mean you could't still make it pass.

It sounds like stock ports would be better for your purposes. Porting makes the biggest difference on single turbo builds.

^^Sounds like you are making the better choice staying stock ports. BUT, that really is not too bad of a thing. With the correct mods and a good tune the stock ports can produce good power. Example, I put down just under 400RWHP on stock ports and 15psi when I went to a single turbo setup. Although, I do not have to deal with emissions and I am most certain I would fail (no cat. conv.)

Good luck with your build!

stock ports are optimized more for more low and midrange as well. it's always a trade off
