Question for R1 and R2 owners

I've always wondered how much of a dissadvantage having no rear windsheild wiper would be. When buying an FD, having no rear wiper would be something that would turn me away from and r1 or r2 but is it really that bad not having one?

Put rain-x on, and if the car is moving you'll see fine. The only time it's any consideration is backing out first thing in the morning if it's drizzly. Water just runs off when there is rain-x.

I have a wiper on mine (93 Touring). I vary rarely use it (if ever). Course, I also vary rarely drive the car in the rain. But I completely agree with the rain-x comment, use that stuff and you'll be good to go.

I have a 93 r1 and dont ever recall having trouble seeing out of the back of my car even when it is raining. They only problems are when its super dirty and there is a car or truck behind you with lights on its bright but thats in all of our cars with the height difference but no wiper is no problem for me.

If the only reason you wouldn't go with an R model is because of a wiper, get any other model with one. All the R bits can be added (or done by other aftermarket parts) to other models, but it won't be as easy to add to an R model.

No problem. How often do you use your touring wiper? I live down here, so condensation from cold mornings is rare.
Ironicly, my first Rx7 was a touring and I had everything shaved from the exterior, including the rear wiper.

My 95 PEP doesn't have a wiper. I have only wished for one a few times and that's including use as a daily driver through the long rainy Bay Area fall+winter. Even without Rain-X, the slope of the hatch works pretty well for water run-off. In the mornings, I just use a water blade to wipe the condensation off.

Well, I don't know about them being the greatest invention ever, but they're pretty damn cool...

I have no rear wiper on my 94 PEP. There have been a few times that I would have liked one. Usually only when I am backing up, and it's raining. The extra weight of the assembly will make it harder for your hatch struts to keep the hatch open.

Never once had a situation where I needed it.

If it's raining or condensation is present, I turn on the rear defrost when I start the car.

Also, I don't think I have ever found a make of car (with rear windshield wiper) that doesn't have a wiper motor seeping gear oil in the rear by 60k miles.

I have a touring and I live up in the wet Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I find that while you're driving, you don't really need to use your rear windshield wiper; just when you sit at a stop light or something will rain ever hit your rear windshield.

are you even being serious? it is kinda funny that you guys can take all this time to answer a question like this, but won't answer questions when newbies ask them. get real! who decides between one RX7 and another cuz of the rear wiper.

Maybe everyone was nice because this post didn't include 400+hp or running 10's.

It's not any disadvantage IMO. Just another thing to go wrong and replace

Seriously though, unless you plan to drive in the snow or rain alot, it's not really needed.

I haven't been called "rynblow-me" or "bitch" in this one. Makes it a little easier to post....

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!LOL....Oh the importance of rear wipers when deciding to buy an FD......first of all, I have an R1 and while I could see myself owning a Touring....it would be an addition to the collection and not a replacement. I love the R1/R2 packages. Secondly, I don't recommend driving these cars in the rain. In fact I removed my front wipers...looks better that way.

yea personally, i think the rear wiper kinda detracts from the look of the car. plus, I was just trying to stir some trouble
