you really need a full time job just to pay for the 7...its not how much you pay to buy the car, its how much you are going to have to pay afterwards

In the 2 years that i have owned my 1994 rx-7 i have needed a new engine, turbos, suspension, catback, main engine harness, abs sensor, wheel bearing just to name afew of the parts that have broken. On top of that it has spent approx. 30% of the time i have owned it in the shop.

Keep in mind i purchased a "good condition" car to start with, I do not race or track the car and allows followed proper warm-up, cooldown, break-in etc.

I hope that doesn't scare you away from the rx-7 world, But you should know they are very time and money consuming cars.

Shoot me a PM if you need to know any more.

Bill

good description tobe, I think Section8 is right now, a FD should not be someones first car and the "hooked up to the max" statement leaves me wary as well. My advice, get a civic as your first car and then step up when you have had more than an hours drive time.

you know, i keep seeing threads where people say they've had all kinds of problems with their cars... did i get like the bionic rotary or something? its been in the shop for repairs for 3 days (fuel filter, vacuum line that was bad, and a new thermosensor) that's it... otherwise, all shop time was for upgrades. what's the deal? everytime someone asks me what i paid for my car and then laugh at me and tells me that i paid "way to f*cking much," i just kinda laugh to myself and think... well, true, but my car works

i'm not trying to be a *****, maybe its just that the only reason people find these forums is because they are having problems to begin with. now that i say this, i'm sure my car just burst into flames in the driveway.

you should do what im doing...when i was 15 i was like...sweet i want a rx7... and my parents were like "you have a full tiem job...well get you the loan but you will pay for it!!!!"

and i thought to myself ...i want something that i can work on...not something i have to baby and god forbid i wrecked it...id be so screwed/

so what you should do is get a 1ST GEN rx7. much cheaper. still fast and sharp looking. learn about the engine/car before you drop 20 thousand into a FD and go be an *** and race you friends civic and wreck..then end up in jail for street racing..and not get ur license back till your 21.

i own a 84 rx7...rebuilding an extra engine..and have the plan for an FD after x-mas-MAYBE

just what i think

I've wanted an RX7 for years but can't afford one, but I've made it a point to learn as much of it as I can from the internet, magazines and open sources, basically. So when I can afford one, I know what' I'm going up against.

Very good idea Areitu. This is not a car to make a snap decision on. Search for commong trouble spots, things to look for on a test drive, and calculate how much you want to put into it. If its a FD, I would add the reliability mods (dp, radiator, ast, etc) to the cost of the car. Good luck.

Not many of us have an FD with 40k miles or less like you do.

How old are you? You say you have been racing? $100 says if you get an FD you wreck it within the first 3 months. I have spent $14,000 of hard earned money on my FD so far and still haven't drove it but a mile.

Well if you are rich and your parents are going to pay for it, get a low mile stock 95 R2 for about $25K, add reliability mods, and enjoy. On second thought, why waste your time with an FD, just have your parents by you a McLaren.
