However, if the engine is damaged that bad, it can be replaced with a Mazda Remanufactured engine for about $2000.
Keep in mind that these are just engine prices. They don't include the many other things that need/should be replaced when replacing the engine (or a turbo rebuild at that).

so if mazda remanufactured an engine, you pay for the engine and the engine only no extra stuff it would be like the engine that you had before it was dead eh?

A Mazda reman is just a standard rebuilt engine. No extra goodies or anything.
However, what ends up costing the most is fixing "why" the old engine died. If you simply slap a new motor in there, you are likely to kill it just as well unless you diagnose and repair the cause of the first blown engine.
If the dead engine blew a seal, the turbos might have also been damaged.

If a car already has a blown engine, the first step is to find out what happened (i.e. coolant seals, blown apex). If it was apex seals, you'll need to inspect the turbos for damage. If they were damaged, you'll need to see if they can be rebuilt or if they need to be replaced.
After that, determine what caused the situation to occur (uncontrollable boost, overheat, faulty injectors, etc).
Next is to determine what means you want to go through to have the engine replaced (rebuild, Mazda reman, do the rebuild yourself).
Cheap route :
Mazda reman: $2200 (with shipping and sending back your blown core)
Turbo rebuild: $1000
Misc parts (hoses, gaskets, check valves, broken soleniods, etc): $1000-2000
This is also with you doing the work. If you do the work, don't need new/rebuilt turbos, you can put in a reman and have most "needed" things replaced in the engine area for a little over $3000, maybe $3500 on the high side.
Now, if you have problems in other areas of the car, then that's more money (tires, brakes, suspension, exhaust, etc).

Generally, those "repossessed" cars are more trouble then they are worth (missing parts, torn up wiring, etc). The wiring harness itself could set you back about $1000.

I purchased a reman and just got my FD back last week. You definitely wanna make sure you have a spare thousand or two lying around for misallaneous parts, cause they will pop up.

Great, another 15 year old trying to get an FD on the cheap....
And BTW, please DON'T post a big-*** pic for your signature everytime you post. It's REALLY irritating and wastes forum bandwidth.
