question on AEM ignition install?

Just wondering about the 2 red wires that go to 12volts. I would think that the wires you are splicing into would be 12v since the coils need these. Anyone know if these need to be run to another 12 volt source?

Off of the stock 4 pin wiring harness that connects to the stock coil harness, just use that as both of the -12VDC.

so 2 wires are going to the stock coils (stock) You are cutting each wire in half, splicing 1 wire from aem to each side cut. What I am asking is the one cut , I think should already be 12 volts. I will try and see in my manual. Thanks.

it just switches on the relay inside the AEM so that it will cut on with the ignition, thus, do not hit the battery for this

also, get a good strong 12v source for this, because if you have to use the bypass plug, this power source will feed your coils....

So are you saying I need another source, the one going to the stock coils is not 12v?? I was assuming 12v was already going through the stock wire...I would have checked before hand but my car is in pieces.

So do I or not need to run another 12 volt (switched) source?

yes, you need a 12v source....i don't see anywhere that i mislead you, not only does it need to be an ignition switched 12v source (otherwise you will run batt dead when car is off) it needs to be a strong one

I have had an AEM box on my car for about a week. I did one 90mile road trip and a bunch of around town driving in hot weather. So far I have no complaints. I have mine mounted on top of the bracket that was previously used for the cruise control. I am working on a more compact bracket that will allow me to remount the cruise under the AEM.

RE power wires:
This is a little confusing because the stock harness has power wires built into it, and the AEM has its own seperate power supply.
Here's the deal:
--The AEM power line should run directly to the battery.
--The factory ignition power line (which is switched) should connect to the AEM harness. This is stated in the AEM manual on P13 and P17. This is how I wired my car and the amp light only comes on when the car is started.

I am planning on getting my car dyno tuned within the next few weeks. The AEM comes with a bypass plug for the harness. If time permits I will do a couple back to back runs with and without the amp installed and post the results.

correct CCarlisi, but I was saying that you need to take precaution to get a good strong 12volt source for the two red wires as well if you ever have to use the bypass plug, or plan on using it like in your case, it will be the primary power source for your coils.

are you running the ignitor?

Since I also installed a new turbo kit I decided to play it safe and keep the stock ignitor for the time being. Once I get the rest of the car dialed in I may try to eliminate it.
