Question About Priming the Fuel System

My question is more of a safety concern then a how to question. I have spent the better part of this week redoing my FPD and fuel lines and it is time for me to prime my fuel system and check for leaks. I have been using this link as a reference on how to prime the system.

http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobi...lease_fuel.htm

My question is can this be done safely with the rats nest out, the UIM off, and the ignition coils off? I need to check to see if I have fuel leaks but I want to know if I can do so safely with the above mentioned systems completely removed from the car. I am not going to start the car. I am just planning on running the fuel pump to prime the system with fuel. My goal here is to avoid reassembly only then finding out that I still have a leak which the would require a second complete tear down. Is this avoidable?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Sincerely,
Jason C. Williams

Absolutely. No problem in just priming the system to check for leaks.

I would just caution that, with everything apart, check to be sure you do not have any electrical wires in close proximity to grounded parts as that may short-out your ECU. I assume you have had your battery disconnected while you have been rummaging around in the abyss. Otherswise, you should be able to pressurize your fuel system.

Ok, I got my FPD dampener in but when I charged my fuel system I found that my primary injectors were leaking badly. So I proceeded to yank them and order the O-ring. In the process I noticed that my wiring harness wrapping has scene better days. I am pulling it tomorrow and rewrapping it to try to get some more life out of it. This has turned into a much bigger job then I thought.

While I am in there is there with everything out of he top of my engine is there anything else that I need to do? I have sylicone hoses and I am replacing all the fuel lines.

I don't want to find myself repeating this anytime soon. Thanks.

Jason

If you're doing the fuel lines that is all I have to add. Be certain to replace the short one between the primary and secondary rails; that's the one that caused my engine fire and I was lucky to get it out quickly.

After the fire the entire underhood engine harness was replaced. It's such a treat now to have electrics that you don't have to fear breaking in half when working on the motor.

the snowball effect of working in the engine bay on a 10 year old FD is amusing sometimes isn't it?

DEI has some interesting products for wrapping wires. Don't have the URL right now, but Summit resells for them.

maybe you want to get some heat coating applied to your manifolds while they are off? jet hot?

Not sure what you are talking about? I haven't done anything under the hood like that, just closed off the sides of the radiator inlet and added the splitter to the nose.
