question about mazdaspeed hood

is it possible to mount the mazdaspeed hood using the stock latch, and not having to use hood pins?
also, looking for good pics of a silver FD with the hood on it.

Here are some pics:

You don't need hood pins if you get the fiberglass version. However, hoodpins are never a bad idea, just some added security on those high speed runs.

BTW, that's not my car...

Pins aren't necessary...

I don't run them on my car... I guess it might depend though on the quality of the hood. Some may be more flimsy and lightweight. Also if you do some really high speed runs, it may be an issue, but so far mine seems very solid. If you want to pick up a great replica, check out the thread in the group buy section...

You don't need hood pins with the Mazdaspeed hood. I did it for extra protection and because they had hood pins on all the cars in F&F...j/k

Here are some more pics (alternate angles) of the hood on a silver car...older pics of my car than Mahjik posted (pre bumper, sideskirts).

cool, thanks. So what do you think about the pros/cons of the stock hood vs. mazdaspeed one? obviously better cooling (my main reason) and i like the more aggressive (but not too "in your face" look) - any cons?

no con's that I can think of, just costs money to purchase and paint when you have a perfectly good stock hood on there now...

my g/f doesn't grasp the concept of replacing a perfectly good item with another one...no big deal, I don't grasp the concept of needing more than 3 pairs of shoes...

ISUposs: thanks for the props!

The pro would definitely be to release heat from the engine bay, especially from around the IC.

I have the hood as well, but I've been waiting to get my car repainted to put it on (now going on 10 months since I got the hood ).

I can't wait to get mine installed. Anyway to get rid of some of that engine bay heat, I'm all for it.

2 Questions:

#1 How come I can't find the original Mazdaspeed Hood anymore?
#2 How come I've never seen anyone with the original Mazdaspeed Type R hood either?

Here's a link to a pic of the Mazdaspeed Type R hood, as you can see it's got more vents behind the headlights compared to the Mazdaspeed hood that's shown in the other links above.

So does anyone know how to get this hood?

I would imagine you'll have to find some friends abroad to locate that hood. You could talk to the fellas at http://www.jt-imports.com/

I e-mailed jt-imports about the hood, if it's available, how much it costs, what it's made out of, etc. I'll post what answers I get from them on the forum as soon as I hear from them.

OK, here's the response I got from JT-Imports about the Mazdaspeed Spec-R hood:

Hows it going bro? well NOPE, its no
available yet. Mazdaspeed hasnt put it
out yet for some reason. We had a few
theories for this. They want to get it
in the AUTO SALON, so they can have something
to put out to help make them more popular again.

Sincerly,
Jason
