Question about heater output?

I just finished flushing my heater core (since I had NO HEAT), and now I've got great heat from the FLOOR and DEFROST positions only.

No heater output from the vents.

I do not have an owners manual for reference.

I'm assuming this is normal, based on the Festiva I used to have (lots of Mazda parts on it) and it had no temperature control on VENT position.

I did a search and only found this one thread from many moons ago that more or less confirms it is normal:

Thanks,

Vince

Yep mine is the same way. Heat to the floor, cool air from the dash vents. I like it, I wish all cars were the same way. I think if you hit the recirculate button so the car doesn't let outside air in it will help a little.

Search around a little more, there are (or used to be) several threads on this phenomena. Mazda did this deliberately as studies at the time showed warm air coming out at face level significantly contributed to driver drowsiness.
