I read on another post about this same problem that the heat only blows on your feet, not face, on FD's. Cool air comes out of all the vents but hot air only goes to the feet.

Maybe someone else can back me up on this one?

Heater Feature or Flaw - no heat from vents

Ok, so I am not crazy, the air coming out of the vents is cool and the air on the floor is hot. This morning I tested it and found 85 degrees at the vents and 118 degrees on the floor vents. Damn, no wonder my hands are cold when it's cold out. So apparently it looks like it's a "feature" of the 3rd gen. but is there a way to FIX the issue?

the heat blows out at your feet because heat rises and that is the most logical way to run a heater.

These cars are not practical for every day living and were not supposed to be. Its true my car same issue you have cool air from the dash vents and hot air from the floor or lower vents.

The last two things considered in designing this car were comfort and practicality. -Jack Yama?*_?gama$

Heat in face puts driver to sleep. Driver alseep in car is bad.

Talking Had to laugh

I had to laugh on that one that heat in face put drive to sleep...Driver asleep in car is bad

Ok, cold air on hands makes hands stiff on cold morning. Stiff hands not good for operating steering wheel.

I was thinking if the heat was too much on the face, I could even try during down the temp or the fan. Those Mazda engineers thought of everything didn't they?

Thanks for the comments, made me laugh!

Don't comment unless you know what you are talking about. that is the problem with the forum, everyone thinks the know the answer so they chime in.

In the owners manual it explains that heat will only come from the front window defroster and the floor. The reason is one that has already been stated: heat in the face makes a driver sleepy.

Sometimes the temperature controller dial will slip out of place and not turn the temp up, even though you have turned the dial. To check this, pull the dial off. Pull it straight off. When it is off, you will see a little square hole. Behind the hole, the plate has a square nub that fits into the hole. When the nub fits tightly in the hole, it keeps the plate from turning, and allows you to change the temperature. If the nub is loose, you will turn the plate when you turn the dial, and not change the temp. If it is loose, turn the dial so the nub fits in the hole, and tighten the nut snugly. Don't over tighten.
