Question Question about apexi's D1 drift car

Any one know how the apexi guys flared out the wheel wells on that car? Is it a kit or did they just roll the bejesus out it? Is that even possible to do that with a fender rolling too? I have really wide tires in the rear and either need to do that to it or I am going to buy a wide body kit. Sorry I dont have a pic of it, but it was on the cover of the december sport compact car.

By the pictures, I'd guess that it isn't a kit.

EDIT: Forum doesn't like SpeedOptions links, click the above link and then select the November '03 vehicle.

Not sure, but they don't look like addons from a kit even though it says "Sun Eye Works Fender".

Check out Jan Import Tuner there is pic of the Apex drift car on pg39. Also the cover car is Endless FD he has Pettit Racing rear flares that are molded in,it realy looks hot. He stuffed 315/35/18 under the back of that thing, notice the off set on the rear rim.

The Apex dosent have rolled fenders, when you roll your fender all you do is roll the lip on the under side up further in the fender so that the tire cant grab it. When you look at a car with rolled fenders you cant even tell they are rolled if it done carefully. The Apex has definatly had some glass work done to it.

From what I understood from an old japanese magazine its flared out, that lip has no glass there. It's typical drifter style to do that.

Those are NOT SanAi front fenders.

Theres a good pic of the fender, its totally stock. The SanAi front fender has more of a slit on it.

Why don't you call A'pexi and ask them directly? That will get you an answer, as opposed to just speculating.

the apex car is all metal, nothing added. the lip on the inner side of the fender well was cut out and then the rest was rolled out to be able to fit wider tires in it and to account for camber and whatnot. it's an old school drfiter thing and also keeps from having to add weight from fiberglass parts. i've seen the car in person and got very close to inspect every part of it

I saw Jan import tuner. Did you check out the article with the non-Apexi car? That guy has a red FD, I think, with a Rotary Extreme V-Mount IC. Anyways, he was a moron. It took him two blown engines to realize he needed to upgrade the ECU

Awesome, gonna call em up on monday. I really hope I can get that done, I have 18x 10 technospeed z1's with a +22 offset and it would look crucial sitting snugly under that flair. If not I am gonna pick up the apexi n1 wide body kit as it would accomadate it nicely also. thanks for the gelp fellas, I let ya know what I find. -B

Hey don't rag on my friend, I think the media/magazine got the story a bit wrong, they cut short some part of it to fit in the little page they allocate it.

He blew the engine once because of hot air intake. I think he was using stock intercooler with M2 ECU, but since drifting does not give much airflow over intercooler, the intake air temperature got too high, then it blew his engine.

Well that is my understanding. You gotta listen from the real guy, not the media. They get paid to make interesting news/article not the truth...
