Question on 93 R1 Specs

I am about to get an 93 R1 (if i get 3.5 or higiher gpa ) and was wondering a few things. I see it says 255 hp, but a recent Tuner they dynoed it at 230 after replacing the vac lines. Also when i see peoples list of mods they still only run low 13's when i thought stock it can run 13.1. Could you please clarify this please. Also is it hard to find a R1 in black?

255 HP at the flywheel is about 210-220 at the wheels. 230 RWHP is a strong stock car.

Stock 1/4 mile was around 13.9 seconds at 100 MPH by the magazines.

There are production numbers avaiable by color and model on many web sites. Look at scuderiaciriani.com.

The R models have the same engine as other models with a second oil cooler, different shocks (same springs and anti-roll bars), a front strut bar, suede-like cloth seats, and front and rear spoilers. All are 5-speeds with no sunroof. I suggest finding the cleanest car you can, with no real preference for the model. There are a lot of black cars, but it would be worth considering another color if you find a nice one.

See the sticky post at the top that says "newbies"? That means you! All your answers and more can be found in there. The motto of the Forum should be "If you don't have the patience to use the search button, you definitely don't have the patience to own a 3rd gen . Good luck with the gpa.

No offense, but if you don't even know the basics of the car, you have no business getting one. These cars require a committment to own. They are not just for someone who wants a fast car. I don't mean to sound harsh, but if that is all you are looking for, a Z28 would suit you much better.

Before you get the car, you need to do a lot of research as to what you should look for and learn the basics of how the car works. These cars can (will?) be a very large financial drain and are not tolerant of abuse.

BTW, to answer your questions:

all FDs came with 255 hp. The magazine number you saw was REAR WHEEL HP. This represents the actual horsepower reaching the wheels after driveline losses.

A typical stock FD runs high 13s with a good driver. Exceptional cases have been mid 13s.

Edit: damn I'm a slow typer, Max and Nathan beat me to it...

I did use the search for specs, but it only brought up other info. And i know the basics of the car, i also know that only like a few hundred black ones were made. I know this car will take alot of work, thats why i have been reading like everything lately on these forumns. BTW, i would never even consider a z28 or a mustang

Didn't want to sound harsh, we get a LOT of posters here that saw TF&TF and want an FD.

BTW, there were only about a total 800 black R1/R2s imported.

In 1993 638 black R1's were imported. Good luck with the grades and good luck finding a black R1.

638 makes better sense. I couldn't understand why black would be so rare in the R1.
Thanks,
