Pulley Kit Questions

Can you use any pulley kit with the air pump still installed? Assuming you have the correct belt size. Are there any down falls with running a pulley kit, I am looking at the FEED pulley kit which gives you the main, water pump and alternator. More or less what I am worried about is the slwoing of the water pump and cooling inefficency.

I don't remember which of the many forums I'm on, in fact I think its this one or its mazdarotaryclub.com but there is a thread about pulleys, The air pump is as you know clutched on the front plate and should not cause any drag on the engine and if your pulleys are underdrive then of the possible 10-15 hp gain you will only loose 3-4. What is the rest of your set up? piggybacks and so on? look in the new commers sect above to be sure.
then again just bin the air pump

I need the Airpump for emissions reason, although I guess I could just ditch it and place it on for emissions. You can really gain that much power from a pulley kit??

Right Now I have a DP, CB and on the way is an intake, SMIC, MP/Hiflow cat, boost contoller and PFC.

If you want a pulley kit that retains the Air Pump, just get the Pettit Racing Power Pulley Kit: http://www.pettitracing.com/rx7.htm

It comes with everything you need and is made to retain the air pump.

Will under driving your air pump hurt your emissions? I have the IL dyno test, and I barely passed last time. I'm afraid injecting a little less air might be enough to bump me into failure...

I do not see that as being a problem, because if the air pump is anything like the ones on FCs I know most of the air is reouted back outto the open air. I am sure there is some way it measures the amount of air going through the ACV.

Well, if you want to be pedantic you don't gain any flywheel horsepower. I think most people are concerned about wheel horsepower though.

well from what i have learned on all of my mustangs is that underdrive pulleys usually are worth about 10 rear wheel horsepower, due to the simple fact that it slows down the accesories.

i assume is should be the same on a rx7 as it has been on a mustang but who really knows, i guess only someone who has dyno tested before and after pullies could chime in.
