Question Protek Substitute

I remember reading on the forum a few months ago about a less expense substitute for the Pettit Protek fuel lubricant. Something to the effect it is the same additive used in snow mobiles. If so, what is the name and is the ratio the same as the Protek?

You should just buy the Protek-R, it's really not expensive. I think I paid $50 for a gallon and it will definitely last for over one year for me. The only thing I don't like is having to pour it in the small bottle. I should have purchased the small bottles last year.

IMO the Protek-R is the best premix for the FD. But if your looking for less expensive or readily available alternatives any 2 stroke motor oil would suffice.

Just use some MARVEL Mystery Oil.

I do, I add about 4 oz. for each tank of gas.

or, KLOTZ is a damned good lubricant if you are wanting a true pre-mix, as in if you have removed your MOP.

But Marvel works great if you just want a little protection in a normal engine.

It was the polaris synthetic gold and I got it for about $27 for a gallon. I use a little less than half what they tell you to use. I think this may be what you were talking about.
