Question Protec-R from Pettit

I am running a Pettit Rebuilt motor and have been using Protec-R in the gas to keep my seals lubricated.

I am trying to find out the equilavalent oil to mix in my gas that does not have to be purchased by pettit. I have been told that it is a marine oil, but I don't know what type or weight. (synthetic, 2-stroke, inboard, outboard motors,.etc. . . .)

2-stroke will do the job. I use Protec-R also, but 2-stroke when I run out. I pour about 4-6 ounces in with each fill up.

Depends on the type of 2stroke you use. Some of them will produce more smoke from the exhaust. I have been using a motorcycle 2 stroke oil for the past year with no ill effects. The motorcycle oil is "ashless" or something, ill check the name when I get home. Some things that i noticed with the 2 stroke, is that my temps seem to be about 5 degrees less, idles smoother, and better engine response.

Thumbs up 2-stroke

Thanks, for the reply.
I will be going to purchase some 2-stroke marine oil or motorcycle oil.

I use to use Protec-R but I am not friends with Pettit anymore.

I use Klotz Synthetic 2-stroke oil. It says on the jug "pre-mix" only. I heard rumer that Klotz makes the oil for Pettit. I told Cam once the stuff I was using and he said it was cool.. Take it for what it's worth. When it comes to my FD I trust no one more than Cam.

Any concern over fouling spark plugs with Protek-R? For what its worth, Peter Farrell says gas additives are unecessary.
