Pro's and cons of Non-Sequential setup
Im getting new stockers for the time being and im looking into doing a non-sequential setup. What are teh pros and cons doing so? Thanks in advance..

I went NS because I was too lazy to trouble shoot the whole seq. system. The Pros: I always get full boost by 3600-3800(dep on gear). Smooth, linear power build up. The Cons: Lag, lag & lag. I have a street ported motor and my car doesn't "wake-up" until 3500 rpms. Below 3000 rpms it's down-right slow.
I may try to convert back to seq. I'm printing the instructions now...

The only downside is you lose almost all low end. The upside is that you dont have to worry about boost spikes ******* your engine up.
Luckily my lightened flywheel gets me to 3800-4000 RPM in a jiffy and by that time I'm far enough in front of the traffic to give two ***** about the minimal lag..

I prefer the non sequential system. It is free of the never ending problems I was having with the sequential system. I dont really mind the lag, since i can just downshift and keep the revs up and boost is just instantaneous above 3500 rpm. If you are drag racing. you can feel the lag in first gear, but after you shift near redline, the revs stay up and lag isnt an issue. First gear flys by so fast anyhow that I dont even miss the extra power downlow. Thats my opinion. I say go for the conversion.

911 i should have come out to the sticks of worcester (where there are open lanes on the roads...not all bumper to bumper) and shown you the light. my tail light. sometimes all one needs is a proper frame of reference in order to see the error of their ways. lol
if you live that far out...then non seq is all fine and dandy. if ya dont...then non seq blows. i say that for one simple reason...with non seq you can NOT enjoy the power in the car until you are speeding. if you want to enjoy the car you risk tickets every time you do it. I dont have that problem because my car is seq.
non seq is laggy...poor mans is a lot laggier. period. the rotary is already weak as hell down low...comparitive to a v8. I dont like getting beat in any rev range. simple as that.

I've heard several people say the BNRs 3 in NS mode spool up at around 2 grand or even earlier depending on mods. Is this true? I'm thinking about getting a wild street port with the BNRs 3. I'm thinking the quick spool of the BNRs should somewhat offset the lag that the streetport causes. I already have a racing flywheel. So what do you guys think? My main goal is to have a very streetable car with very good mid-top end. Any suggestions?

I personally like instant boost at any RPM that the sequential system gives. I'm also one of the FD owners whose sequential system works. If it was screwed up all the time I might have a different viewpoint.

Granted, with Stage 3's when you do hit 3800 or so rpms you'll be thrown back in your seat but it's still nothing like the stock sequential system.
It all depends on what you do with your car. I know when I'm at the track, there are several series of turns I can run through in 3rd gear. If I was non-seq, I would have to shift into 2nd to come out of the turns, back into third as I accelerate out and then shift back into second for the next turn. In sequential, I can get away with staying in 3rd as I have the power at 2500 rpms.
For what I do with my car, non-seq is not an option. For others, it's a definite option.

<-----non seq. and loving it.....full boost(.8bar) by 4000 rpm...or earlier in second gear up......but mid range from there is AWESOME......great for 2nd and 3rd gear roll-ons.....no spikes...and solid pull to redline............driveability still very good...and makes cornering very predictable....one drawback: its much louder!!..

I live in the land of BNR. rode with SPOauto's stage 3.. and I also remember talking to Nocab72 about seq vs. single, before he went single (he used to be fan of seq set up).. Going non-seq is like getting a single.. except cheaper.. I just love the seq. set up.. and I have no plans to go with non- seq or single (probably 99 turbos soon).. But don't get me wrong.. once it spools, you could really feel it.. like how single feels.. I guess its a good trial if you are thinking about going single turbo set up..

Non-seq really cuts boost response. FDs will do about 68mph in 2nd gear, so that means your boost won't hit until about 34 mph in 2nd. I don't like driving around at 4K+ rpms all the time to get some throttle response.
If your going NS then don't be a cheap bastard, go single. Seq systems are NOT as trouble prone as people say.
Ever here of "urban legends". NS guys complaining of SEQ problems are pretty much urban legends. NS guys saying the car works well in traffic haven't been next to a SEQ car either.

Noise is very much an issue for me, so if it is any louder I'll be staying sequential.

So stationary holding the revs at 4.5-5k it is going to be louder then? (track day noise limit testing in the UK) Should have thought about this a while back

Well heres teh deal, im sick and tired of having boost issues caused by a certain tuners botched job.I am certain that i am going non-sequential but i just wanted to hear some more opinions on what i should do. Some of you say that i should go single but if i had the $3500 or so, dont ya think that i would enjoy the extra 100 hp instead of converting from seq. to non-seq.???/
