Prolong Lubricants.. ok for rotary..

I've been reading in the prolong website's FAQ's and it stated that the engine treatment are ok for use in rotary engines.. as it will burn clean.. wanna know what u guys think..

" Q: Can I use Prolong Engine Treatment with any engine?

A: Prolong Engine Treatment is safe and effective for new or used, gasoline or diesel engines. It can also be used in rotary engines. Prolong Engine Treatment is an ash-less petroleum product especially suited to applications where lubrication and reduction of carbon build-up are critical factors."

~Snake oil~

Why exactly do think you need this? They got the FTC after their ***. SO dont waste your time on it.

Performance Claims for Motor Oil Additive Were Unsubstantiated
Prolong Super Lubricants, Inc., marketer of one of the largest selling motor oil additives sold in the U. S., has agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that the firm made unsubstantiated claims for its automobile motor oil additive, Prolong Engine Treatment Concentrate (ETC). Prolong Super Lubricants, Inc. is based in Irvine, California.

The complaint detailing the charges alleges that Prolong made unsubstantiated claims that compared to motor oil alone, Prolong ETC:

reduces engine wear at start-up; and
extends the duration of engine life.
The complaint also alleges that Prolong made unsubstantiated claims that ETC:

reduces corrosion in engines; and
protects against engine breakdowns.
The complaint further alleges Prolong made unsubstantiated claims that:

benefits that may be achieved by using Prolong ETC in race cars or under racing conditions can be achieved in ordinary automobiles in conventional use; and
testimonials and endorsements of consumers made in advertising reflected the typical or ordinary experience of members of the public who use Prolong.
This settlement is the latest in a series of FTC law-enforcement initiatives targeting claims made by engine treatment manufacturers. The Commission recently charged the marketers of Dura Lube and Motor Up with making unsubstantiated claims for their brands of motor oil additives. Those complaints are awaiting administrative trial. The FTC previously halted allegedly deceptive advertising by the marketers of Valvoline, Slick 50, and STP, other major brands of engine treatment products.

I didn't read anything in their description that a good synthetic oil won't do... While I don't think it would cause any harm, I don't think it will do much good.

the reason I need these things is that my engine is constantly being pushed.. as I enjoyed driving it fast and revving it up to 7000 rpm.. and I heard somewhere that if youve got an fd you are in between a paranoid shcizophrenic and an obsessive compulsive disorder.. thats what I am obsexxive about it and paranoid about it broken down.. so anyway ways to maintain it or that gives me a peace of mind helps.. hahahahaha

That's a piece of cake for a rotary engine. It loves to rev. No extra protection needed, not that Prolong will provide it. We have hundreds, if not thousands, of FD owners on this Forum. You don't hear them talking about or endorsing Prolong, do you? That wealth of experience and the lack of support for Prolong should tell you something.

You wanna get paranoid about something worry about the cooling system. That's where you're likely to court disaster.

if you realy want to prolong the life of your engine, use premix in your fuel. 0.8% of special rotary premix or any good 2 stroke oil. i only premix during autoX or other events cuz i barely drive my FD other than that. I use motul and with given ratio it doesnt smoke at all

If you think you push your car hard just change the fluids more often. And unlike Prolong, adding premix can actually help.

I was hoping for something of a BAWesque nature

I feel let down

The vast majority of the "special additives" do jack **** for car's. It's like spending $5 for an octane booster that may, or may not, help out in a real world situation. It's a marketing gimmick.

That being said, proper premix is god for the rotary. My OMP is functioning properly but I'll still put in 4oz. of Idemitsu premix with every fill up. I'll also rag the **** out of the 7 at least once a week (pref redlining under boost once a day) to throw off any new carbon build up. Feed the engine a gallon of distilled water every month or so, DEFINITELY. Spend extra money for some miracle product? Unless the brand name starts with BG than heck no!

You should get a free "Tornado", a magnet for your fuel line, a free CD on how to become a millionaire while sitting on your *** at home and a tube of KY with any purchase of Prolong.

Yes, any ashless two-cycle oil will work. Many motorcycle and marine engines (boats) use use it.

^you can also mix in a small amount of the regular engine oil you use. That is what the OMP is injecting into your engine to start with. The reason why premixing is so effective is that, since the lubricant is going in with the fuel, it is dispersed much more evenly, where as the OMP (though still effective) is hitting up a concentrated injection.

I'll personally use bits from the extra quart of oil I keep in my car when I am out of Idemitsu and waiting for more.

Synthetic is ok, if that is what you use than your OMP is injecting it anyway.
