Profec B Tuning?

I have a profec B installed.

With the system off, I get about 7 pounds boost
With the system on and running low setting, I can get the 'prefect' 10-8-10.
With the system on and running high setting, I have it tuned to max out at 12 lbs.

Here is the problem (?) I can barely turn the high or low **** past 0 without great boost building.

I have played with the dip switches, but no matter what, I cannot seem to get the system to use more that 2 or three degrees of rotation without high boost.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Did you disconnect and plugged the hose on the other side of actuator. The one that goes to the factory boost control solenoid?

I'm not sure how similar the original profec and the spec ii are, but I found these threads by Alien7 very useful. There are different setups mentioned (advantages and disadvantages of both) and what the effects of the ***** are is explained very clearly. Different setups may react differently, it may explain what you're experiencing. Hope this helps;

EDIT: And I believe the 7 psi with the unit off is normal. Not sure about the rest.

Thanks also, I'll check out the links.

The boost rates seem fine, it is just that I cannot adjust the ***** without incredible boost building fast.

Thanks for the posts. Reading the links 'reminded' me of what the problem was...

I purchased the Profec because I was getting a bad boost spike. I was under the impression that this could cure the problem. What it did was actually help me mask the problem until the real solution was found.

But since the profec really did not fix the problem and I was still getting spikes no matter what settings I had, I was able to 'tune' the turbo system via the profec by setting the low and high boost as low as possible and then setting the balance to where the car still had decent response.

After a while, I decided to try a hose job. And it was the hose job that actually fixed the spike.

But by the time I did the hose job, I had forgotten how the Profec should have been set up (as opposed to how I had it set up to mask the spike.)

After finding and re-reading the installation instructions again today, I was able to reset the profec to operate as it was designed to.

Thanks again.
