I am looking into buying a 93 rx-7 that the owner states "I just took the car to Gotham racing, the primary turbo seal is going out." I know a bit about these cars but this one i have no idea. Can anyone shed some light on what the primary turbo seal consists of and how much it would cost to fix? Your time is greatly appreciated.

 

I'm assuming it's the seals in the turbo itself - it's probably leaking oil or something, which would require either rebuilding the turbo or buying a good used set of stock twins.

Neither scenario is that bad - if the price on the car reflects the problem turbo, and the rest of the car is in good shape, I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker. It is a bit of work to R&R the turbos - not TOO bad, but it wouldn't be the first task I'd set upon a novice mechanic .
