Power steering rack leak

I found out that the rack is leaking, and I will be replacing it very soon, does anyone have a write up on it? I can always use the factory manual for help but it might make it a little easier with a write up, if anyone does have 1 id really appreciate your help

u basically just unscrew what u can see. the 4 main bolts are taken out from below. a few tips from when i took out the rack: leave the tie rod end attached to the hub, its easier than trying to uninstall them from it especially if u don't have the tool for the job; just unscrew the inner from the end. also, the retaining washers for the tie rod inner.. i think these need to be replaced with new ones.. haven't heard of people reusing it or not.. about $4 each from ray, so have those ready if you need the car up and running the same day. its a good time to see if the inners or boots need changing too. the rest is pretty easy, just a few bolts and fittings to undo. are u sure the rack is leaking or do you mean the hard lines running throughout it?

im not sure how much of the rack is leaking because I cannot see the whole rack from underneath without taking off the crossmember, but from what I CAN see, there are droplets of powersteering fluid coming from one of the boots from the rack on the drivers side of the car. I brought my car to my job at sears, and had someone inside the car turning the steering wheel side to side, and sure enough i saw it leaking from the drivers side of the steering rack.. leaves a nice little puddle of fluid on the floor every day. Thanks, what you said will help me in the installation a lot.

I've done it on another car. If you find metal flakes in the fluid, make sure to drain that line completely. I didn't, and I suspect that's the reason the second rack failed 40k later.

First, verify it is the rack and not the P/S unit itself which is leaking. The P/S unit has some hokey clamps on the hose which can easily leak fluid. It will drip down onto the A/C and then down to the floor. It can look like the rack is leaking due to the path the liquid will take.

Mahjik is VERY right! I started to question my theory that the steering rack was leaking, so I brought my car to my job again, and took a look under my car with a flashlight and saw the p/s rack's boot soaked with fluid.... when I shined the light above the boot, I saw a LOT of fluid dripping down from the actual P/S pump. The suction hose on the p/s pump WAS leaking but I repaired it and the leak stopped, however, it turns out the leak is somehow coming from the very bottom of the p/s pump, dripping fluid unto the p/s rack's boot, makin me THINK the rack was bad...We cleaned eveything with degreaser, and I will check it again in a few days, and if I see the bottom of the pump leaking again, then im replacing the Pump. Thank GOD I took another look, thanks guys
