Power steering pump leak.

My power steering pump hose has been leaking for quite some time. I don't remember the specifics as it's been a few years now, but I remember being told that because of the size or something that there were no current replacements for it. This was from my rotory specialist.
However I was in Oreilly's auto parts to pick up some MORE plugs to get the flood motor going..... Anyway, I was told that they make a bunch of custom hoses there, and he actually pulled the hose up that was leaking already made.

A I insane here? Did there used to be an issue with this or is there still a hose that is not standard size?

i think the powersteering is normal. i have a leak on mine too. it could be coming from the hose itself. i just think over time it gets brittle and breaks.. i dont recommend trying customs hoses.

Custom hoses work great if you pay for quality merchandise.

The high pressure hose was made by Oil Filter Service in Portland OR.

The stock tank has a very small filter in it, and it is not accessible if it needs cleaning. Mine had some gunk in it, restricting the flow of PS fluid. Also there was a leak in supply line to the pump, and I was tired of messing with it.

Nearly all fittings are now AN. Only the supply to the pump is not. If I can find a fitting that will fit that opening on the pump, I will make it AN as well. There is provision to bolt a fitting on to this pump, but it is non-standard.

The tank is from Speedway Motors. It has generous capacity, and although it does have some baffling near the top, the holes are pretty big, and PS fluid would still slosh up and run down the sides of the tank. That was fixed by folding up 3 coffee filters and stuffing them in the top of the tank. Been working fine for several months now. The coffee filters are tough material, and don't fall apart.

The bracket is one I made out of some aluminum from the scrap pile.

Several autox's and no leaks.

try the hose.

when your rack needs replacing. consider eliminating the p/s. the 7 is a light car and many have done that mod.
