Power Steering Pulley removal

OK. I just searched scudiericiriane, and hit robinnette's site. I also did a search here.

I know there is some way to get the pulley off with out the tool. I called a friend who said use long screwdrivers in the holes, then get like a breaker bar to hold it firm, then use the socket.

Does this sound right? Is this also something that is impossible to McGyver without an assistant?

Oooh, just found this, lets see if I can get it to work

A trick myself and SanJoRx-7 learned today. Use the old belt on the pulley. Wrap it around the pulley and let it "chuck" itself tight, then put the end of the loop around the top p/s line into the pump.

When the pulley turns, it will drop all slack, tighten up, and have a friction lock - the bolt comes off.
Any other suggestions welcome.

I recall people using an impact wrench instead of a standard wrench....

Be creative but be careful the pulley feels like it could easily break. I think i used giant vice-crips to hold and then the bolt came loose. I'm not even sure if the pulley is necesary to remove the whole unit will remove if that is what your doing

My pulley is in about 14 peices.

Impact gun got the nut off. The actually pulley was stuck onto the pump shaft. I tried a gear puller and it shattered

I got it off with someone elses help. I basically used 2 screwdrivers in the whole, a bar to keep then taught, and maintained pressure while someone else loosened the nut.

I did something similar to that. I held the nut with a wrench, and had a friend use a flathead screwdriver to tap the pully in one of the small holes to turn it. Loosened right up.
