POssibly getting an FD......need re-assurance

Hi guys,

Im an FC n/a owner and possbily will being trading it to another club member selling his FD (he wants my FC). The car is well kept, but once under my ownership, it will become my new daily driver. its mildly modified and i plan to keep it that way....especially since ill be enjoying it thoroughly coming from an N/A FC.

ive heard the bad sides to the FD in terms of reliablility. i just need reassurance that going to an FD will not sacrifice the reliability i enjoy with my FC.

thanks,
Carlos

ps - be honest, if it comes to that they just arent that relialbe, i wont get it.

If you have to be reassured, don't get it.

so very true!

then again i have a both and think fc's have more problems then fd's do.

on the bad side though, you'll have to worry about people taking your car, keying it, breaking into it, stuff like that. the extra power will also get you into trouble if your not a very good driver or just dont have good sense. push it too hard and it will push back... just buy enough insurance and you should be fine though so don't worry too much.

The FD will sacrifice the reliabiltiy of your FC.
Turbo= more problem then N/A.
But if money isn't an issue then go ahead and get the FD.

mods: r BPUs (twin K&N cones, s/p, electirc fan, larger intercooler, high-flow cat, suspension, rims, tires), its got 140,000KMs, very well maintained and never winter driven.

when a person is wanting to get into the rotary world and is worried about its "known" problems, do we say dont get it. we reassure the person that things will be fine as long as the car itself is good and he follows the scheduled maintenace stuff.

coming from an FC, ive heard the bad things about FDs and I just wanted to get first hand input from actual owners (other than my local club members) as to how they are as a daily driver.

As with any other car, the most reliable FD is one that's near stock, has been well-maintained, and wasn't consistently beat on. Now do people blow their engines? Sure they do, and what I was trying to do w/ "fd3s_rx7" was ask the reason why to put his statement into context, i.e., did you overheat?, did you overboost?, what were your mods?, did you have proper engine management?, etc. Quite a few people here do indeed have reliable cars, and almost always you can credit that to responsible ownership.

Hmmmm funny I gave away my rx last night. Instead of wreking it like some 18 years old guys do.

I watch 2 small clipps of the 787 some times, and thats more scary than riding my old right now

Rotors gives my next car perfekt sound and engine. I think, if I just can get a 26b that works fast. I could stick it into a, 34 number 2. And make things work right this time instead i think. An OFF THIS road 34

Well, then that's definitely a plus.

You're going to hear some bad stories, but again, you really have to put the reason for people blowing their engines or their troubles into proper context, and you have to exercise some common sense too. Almost always, a well-maintained car will be relatively trouble-free. That said, I've had zero issues with my car.

Let's enjoy the car life with as much as possible. With more speed. More power. Lets let everything go and embrace the power of tuned machine. Nothing else matter but the feeling of excitement and youth. Graduate to the world of tuning and you will step into a new world. Big fire twin turbo. Ready. go. FD.

miata turbo is what you want!

the FD3S is not a reliable car. it pushes things to the limit and things break at the limit. it is a great japanese supercar though, and i'd say it gives status of someone who demands performance from their supercar.

Being in CA, I'd wait until funds for a solid second car were available.

not reliable? it may brake down form time to time, be it form not proper work or sheer randomness but at least it wont leave you stranded on the side of the road usaly.
but yes if your not down to work and spend money for upkeep dont waste your time or a car. But if your commited and willing go for it just a warning though before you get your self in to more the you bargend for
