Arrow Possibly buying a '93 Rx7

Hey guys. Im new here & hope im posting in the right section. Well I will be selling my truck hopefully if the deal falls through & buyin a '93 Rx7 R1 5 Speed Twin Turbo. It contains a JDM engine with 45k miles & chasis with 160k miles & a $1600 ECU (dnt know what that is lol) But i was wondering when i go to look at it what should i look at. I dont know much about JDM engines or Rx7s as a matter of fact. I really appreciate the help guys.

How much are they asking if you dont mind?

Mileage on chas/engine?
interior condition?

Yeah he said it needs a repaint which i can get for free. But hes askin 9000 OBO. Mileage on chas is 160k & on engine is 45k.

My personal idea would be to pass on that one. with 160k on the chassis, there is bound to be a lot of suspension work to do on top of paint and body work, changing the wheels, etc. For a few thousand more you can find one that is already in at the very least descent condition (unlike this one). Especially living in Miami. I bought mine from tampa and it's absolutely amazing. Hopefully this doesn't sound mean, but don't jump into RX7's. Do a lot of research on the forums as there is a lot of information to be had...

Owning an RX7 (especially a 3rd gen.) is a completely different experience from anything else you've owned. The cars are tempermental most of the time, and also at times just complete pains, but in the end nothing is better...in my opinion anyway.

I guess long story short, make sure you have a second car, plenty of funds, and a lot of dedication. Good luck with getting one though, LOVE 'EM TO DEATH!

wow thx man. well im lookin for a good reliable sports car & i kno the rx7 isnt known for its reliablity but ive been in a few & they r amazing. what other car do u think would be good for about $8000?

If you're still looking for a sports car just consider a T2 second gen. (search the sencond generation part of this forum for more info.) They're pretty stout cars and tend to be more reliable than the third gens...can't figure out why though other than single turbo stock...anyway, you can get a pretty good one for about 8k and would be a blast. Not to mention its still rotary and turbo

well i know this is really off topic & not about rx7 but any1 have experience with an Eclipse GS-T? cause im stuck between that & an rx7. please dont flame.

crank walk? dont know what that is. the eclipse seems more reliable & better of a DD though. but ill get better performance off an rx7 though. dont see many eclipses racing supras n lancers lol

You want a RX-7 for 8k? Expect a blown motor, trashed interior, suspension, exterior, etc. etc. Like it was explained earlier, look into a TII.

If you are looking between a FD and a Eclipse, but dont' know what crank walk is or what to look for in a FD, look somewhere else. If you want a DD sports car for 8k, look into a C4 Vette. Chevy small block reliability, Chevy parts prices.

well maybe you guys can explain what crank walk is. i know your just trying to look out for me so i dont get a piece of **** dd but help me out. im not sure between the rx7, the gst or the gsx.

from the sound of it i jus need to get a 1g engine & that would fix the problem & plenty of the eclipses ive been lookin at are 1g dsms. they sell for under 8G which is a good price for a modded car. plz give me your input

Bro, this is the rotary part of the forums. Go FD, or FC TII, but if you want to stick to something you know about, stick to pistons, unless you've researched rotary.

Before I post I want the op to know that I have both, a '95 eclipse gsx and a '93 single turbo rx7. Also eclipse come with a 4g63, which is the motor that comes in a Lancer Evo, so trust me, there are plenty of 1g eclipses that will walk an EVO.

RX7 PROS
-one of greastest all out sports cars ever made
-easier to make faster (almost 2 sec. faster from the factory)
-handles way better
-looks better than anything on the road
-rotary engines have very little moving parts,
-very linear power curve, plus you can rev to 9,000 rpm
-weighs 300lbs less than a 2g gsx
-may actually appreciate

RX7 CONS
-poor fuel economy
-dangerous in heavy rain
-tempermental to overheating
-expensive to repair since you need a rotary specialist
-uses oil
-louder than a piston engine (which I enjoy )
-expensive parts

Eclipse Pros
-better fuel economy
-more reliabe
-extremely cheap parts
-AWD is great for a fast DD, and safe in all weather
-stock motor can handle 400hp

Eclipse CONS
-2g awd are over priced
-pain to make fast (have to buy turbo, intercooler, fuel pump, injectors, clutch, tuning, exhaust and intake just to go 12's)
-crankwalk(very over rated)
-it will not hold it's value as well

Don't buy the rx7 unless you have a daily driver. If something breaks you want to be able to fix it right, and not have to hurry. And stuff will break, not because it's a rotary, because that is what happens when you make horsepower.

thanx alot man that really helps me out. id love the rx7 but from what ur sayin its probebly not the best DD. so ill be lookin into the gsx. again thx alot.
