Popped motor

I think I popped my motor last night. The engine won't idle smoothly anymore and she doesn't have the power she used too. I was racing a buddy on the way home from work and at about 150 mph she lost all power. Now the engine idles rough and the boost gauge reads 8-10" of hg. I pretty sure that the motor is gone. I was able to drive here back home. I'm going to need to be able to drive to work for at least another 2 weeks and was curious if it was going to make things worse to drive on it or is the damage already done? Any advice on what to do or the condition of the vehicle would be greatly appreciated.

A mechanic would check the obvious stuff first than proceed from there. Are you a mechanic or just a driver?

Yup, sounds just like you blew your motor. When I blew my first one, it had syptoms exactly like you are having. I ended up not having compression on two sides of Rotor 1, the 3rd side had 5.X and the other Rotor had 5.X on all three sides. I basically just had one Apex Seal stick in the Rotor.

Anyway, to get to the point. I drove the car like this for over 2K miles before the motor was changed out. I even TRIED to finish it off a few times. I went over 140mph with it like this. You should be alright for a the couple of weeks you need IMO.

That happened to mine recently also. I can start it w/ the ATF trick though. It's just tired, so hopefully I just need new seals... hopefully

What caused it to blow? Too much boost? Wasn't there any warning on your gauges/commander?

I may be wrong on this, but if you keep driving it and a chunk or two or your apex seals decide to take a trip through your turbos, damage may occur. Feel free to correct me on this if I am wrong.

I did the same last year....but not at those speeds....it had no compression in the rear rotor...bad side seal....and heat damage to the rotor housing....

if you drive it...odds are you will be paying a shitload more damage to your rotors...your possibly reusable housings as well as your turbos...DO not do it.

good luck...

j

ps..get your compression checked.

heat can cause the prob...too much boost...running lean...you name it.

hmm riddle me this.
My engine runs RICH, boosting 8psi, runs fairly cold. What caused mine to die? I hear rattling noises at low rpms sometimes. And that happened many many times before it lost power, bad idle and a front rotor compression of 4/4/8 and perfect rear rotor compression. Rebuilt 1 year ago, 20k miles.

i needed new rotors, and new housings, you should have seen them, apex damage everywhere o yeah plus new turbos.
in my case i overboosted but it was fun i peaked somewhere between 16-18psi . when i popped, it just died and never started again, well until i got it back with the new race ported monster

I think that damaged turbos happens only some of the time. Remember there's many ways to blow a rotary, sometimes when you blow the motor the car is still drivable for a long time. If you blow an apex seal but the side seals are still good, the compression readings will still be good. If you blow side seals, then your compression will be bad, but i heard that if your apex seals are still good the car will still make some power? Correct me if i'm wrong please

Thumbs down

Same here..I overboosted or had bad gas and my front rotor had a piece of apex seal lodged in it. It would run really rough....Luckily it stayed lodged in the rotor and did not fly through the turbos.End result $400 for one new rotor housing...G
