Its a good way to overspin your turbo. Not a wise choice. And if your tuned right you'll never need one.

They are not a good idea as ErnieT stated. If you are worried about boost creap and if a POV will prevent it. Check this thread out, pressurized found a badass way to prevent it, I am gonna try what he did when I get a MP.
anyway, hope this helps.

But it will prevent you from hitting high boost pressures and popping your motor if your waste gate fails.

I am think of getting one since I prefer to popping the pop off valve/turbo instead of popping my motor.

I agree 100% with Mr. Stock...if you have to pick between losing a motor and turbos, the choice is obvious. If the POV opens at a boost corresponding to a MAJOR failure of the wastegate, I think it's a great idea, but for no other reason than this. Boost creep issues need to be addressed in another way.

If you have a boost controller set at say 12psi, and the pov set to open at around 14psi, how will that overspin your turbos?

That is what I thought the job of the pov was. To set it to open at higher then normal boost levels so it will bleed the excess incase the wastegate fails.

Because when it works, all it does is vent excess boost causing your turbo or turbos to keep spinning. I've discussed this with many tuners like Ray Lochead, Demetrios K, and Pepe Loco.....All say its a bad idea.

What you're saying is that it vents all the time. That would overspin the turbos and be a boost leak, but if you never run 14psi it shouldn't be working, right?

So if you did hit 14psi it should open and vent excess boost preventing you from hitting 18psi and blowing the motor.

well the reason i asked was after reading Gsrsol's post about popping his motor.
i have a profec b as well set 12 psi but i play with the settings time to time and thought the pop off would be beneficial incase of a over boost.

I've got a POV on order.. I run 14 PSI, and I figure I'll set it for around 17-18 PSI so that it only comes into play in the event of wastegate failure.
