Plug Wires

How do you know if the plug wires are bad on the fd. My car at high rpm (6500-8000) seems to have a miss fire or something. I can't really explain it but it sounds like ratatatat. I'm not sure if its my plug wires, plugs or my ignition coils. Help!!!

What the hell is a Techtom computer? You have a lot of mods for no fuel system upgrades with a no name ecu.....

How many miles on your plugs and wires?

Techtom is a Japanese ecu that I had bought and had programed down in Calgary Alberta. Its equivalent to the pettit, m2 ecu's. As for fuel mods I have the nippon fuel pump from the cosmo. My plugs probably have 6000 miles on them and the wires themselves I'm guessing 40 000 miles on them. The wires were on the car when I bought it. I know the previous owner and he probably put them on 4 years ago.

I would hate to see the injector duty cycles you're running. How much boost are you running? Also, who tuned the computer? That can be a tricky bit of tuning with a streetport, non-sequential, and midpipe....

If the wires are over 4 years old, change 'em.

i would change them whether they were done recently or not, in your case, NOT. just so you have everything going on your own time schedule.

40,000 miles on wires i believe is a lot. Also, just upgrading your fuel pump isnt going to give you any more gas through the stock injectors then a stock fuel pump. does your computer tell you the duty cycles of your injectors?

Hey Rad,

When you did your Power Meter run last week did you have the same noises? At high Rpm?

If so... you might want to stay off WOT until you get things sorted out. And if you change plug wires... be carefull a wrong wire to wrong plug means disaster.

Which plug wires should I buy? The maps on my ecu are simular to the m2, pettit. The problem just started happening in the past week. My buddy and I have been running this ecu for 2 years now with no problems. Thanks guys.

There are a few threads around about plug wires. I choose 10mm Magnecor and have been very happy with them. Racing Beat also seems to be a popular one as well.

so spend 50 bucks on some megnecor wires and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, you still have better wires.

I just ordered some 10mm magnacor wires today. Hopefully that fixes it. The miss firing seems to be happening when I hook up my ignition (ignition solutions). As soon as I disconnect it the problem seems to disappear so I'm confused. But first I will replace the wires. Keep your fingers crossed.
