Approximate weight saved from replacing entire stock exhaust system?

Just wondering if anyone knows how much weight we actually save from replacing the stock with DP-MP-CB with straight through exhausts.

Don't know...maybe someone weighed the car before and after an exhaust replacement

I remeber reading the article in SCC where the were showing the Banzai RX7. The claim that they made was that the stock exhaust weighed about 50 lbs.

So in all reality we aren't saving 55lbs...after you put back on an aftermarket DP-MP-CB...probably end up saving like 15lbs or something like that.

I thought maybe someone would have a more precice #

My estimate IS for weight savings.

I estimate 55 lbs less than the stock exhaust

Ill weigh mine when I go to the track next and let you know. I usually go with half a tank and weighed in at 2850 with just exhaust & intake. Ive added DP, MP & removed the air pump, so well see where Im at.

Red face

My Guesstimates:

Stock Pre-cat: 30 lbs
Stock Main cat: 50 lbs
Stock Catback: 40 lbs
Total: 120 lbs

Downpipe: 10 lbs
Midpipe: 10 lbs
My PFS Catback: 15 lbs
Total: 35 lbs

Total weight savings of ~85 lbs.

I don't think this is far fetched. The stock stuff is heavy . I'm more sure of my weight estimates of the cats and down and midpipe then the catbacks.

I have the the RB duals and with the little extra piece of exhaust between CB and Cat I think that weighs between 20-25lbs...but then again, just an estimate.

The answer depends on which exhaust components you use. A SS downpipe is like 7-8 lbs, a MS one is more like 10 lbs. The RB dual-tip is atleast 20-25 lbs, probably more. A cannister style exhaust or the PFS is 15 lbs or less.

I looked up the weights on the"purplemantis" site listed above. There is some good info on that site.

Looks like a weight savings of about 46 pounds with an RB catback. A few pounds more would be saved with a lighter CB.

I just played around with the figures too...
I came out with stock exhaust system @ 89.5lbs and
- Pettit DP (jet hot coated) 8lbs
- (RP High flow....closest thing I found to resonated MP) 16lbsRB
- Catback at 24lbs

total 48lbs

So 89.5 - 48 = 41.5 lbs

So I guess this is approximately how much I save...I guess we can't really tell precisely unless we take the exhaust off the car and weigh it. I am not about to do that so we can all just stay here and keep guessing

When I weighed my car at the last Divisionals, I was surprised at how much it weighed after all the mods I've slapped on ... I thought it would be less. 2812 lbs on a full tank of gas. My catback is an old HKS catback that basically looks like its stock, so probably the same weight or possibly heavier. See the rest in sig below. This is also with heavy-*** Kumho Victoracers on. The sticker on the inside of the door says ~2900 lbs, IIRC. So, essentially ... I'd guestimate about 40-50lbs savings.
