Pls.Help: Profec B Install : Is it broken??

Hey guys,

I just bought a used Profec B from someone on the forum. I spent last night getting it installed. But its not working.

When the power is off I'm still get overboosting. Isn't it supposed to hold boost down to 7psi, when the Profec is off? It doesn't seem to make a difference on or off?

The case to Profec B seems to be pretty loose. I mean it doesn't seem to be put together very sturdily. During my test drive I also can hear hissing from inside the cabin. I think it might be coming from the profec unit itself.

Are you supposed to be hear air venting from the Profec inside the cabin?

Also, I know now that I for got to cap off the vacum line that came off from the "other" actuator nipple that I did cap off. Could that be the problem?

Help!

Yes, you need to cap off the other nipple on the actuator. This is very important, you are preventing the ECU from controlling the wastegate. Do this and report back.

Yeah, I'm thinking that the "t" might be leaking. I didn't have the right vac hose couplers at 3:00AM. I hope it's not the profec that's hissing?

When i had my car tuned by Kan I left that other port capped and Steve was having trouble tuning it and had me pull over and pop the hood. he looked under there and said "oh! there's the problem" and popped that cap off. worked like a charm after that.... my vote is to "NOT" cap off that port. just my $.02

ProjectD:
The nipple that needs to be capped is the one on the wastgate actuator.
The unused nipple on the boost controller's solenoid needs to be uncapped so the solenoid can vent/relieve pressure from the actuator.

i'm trying to deal with overboosting too, i dont' have the other nipple capped but i don't have it routed to the solenoid either. it just bypasses the solenoid.

HobbeZ:
I'm not sure which other nipple you mean, but let me try...

There are two nipples on the wastegate actuator. One gets connected to the boost controller's solenoid, the other needs to be capped of.
On the solenoid there should be three nipples, one goes to the pressure source to actuate the wastegate, one to the actuator, and one remain uncapped venting to atmosphere.

It's important the nipples are connected to the correct parts, they're not interchangable.
The line from the pressure source goes to the nipple labeled "NO", the line from the actuator to the nipple labeled "COM". The one labeled "NC" stays unconnected and uncapped.

All this assumes that you also have a Profec B Spec 2 controller.

Hope this helps

Mine works fine and I just poked a small vent hole in the plug on the unused port on the solenoid, didn't want any leafrollers pluging it up.
There should be no hissing or noise inside the car from this, the plastic nipple on the headunit always seemed pretty flimsly, is yours cracked? http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/profec_install.html was the site I used to hook up mine and the install was pretty straight forward, but still a pita. Sounds like you have got a crossed vac hose. Small tywraps also work well to hold the hose on the nipple.
Good luck, sounds like you went a little nutso this week and have really torn into your car!
