Please, Help Me Tune My Boost Controler

Ok here's the story. I installed my boost controller a month or so ago and it seems to be installed correctly. While trying to tune it I realized I didn't know quite as much as I though that I did. So I did some research and learned what each setting did (in theory) and now I am at a point where I can't figure out what I need to do to get it tuned correctly.

I have a Profec B Spec II. I have my gain at 15% my Set at 50% and my start boost set at .70. I have tried a number of setups that have been posted but none get me close to smoothing my boost out. The way I have it set now the boost on the primary initially goes up to .79 and then drops down and levels off at .63. When it transitions it once again reaches .80 and then falls back down and levels off at .53 or so. It seems as though I am on the right track but nothing I seem to adjust helps where the boost levels off at. When I adjust the gain or the Set the top number goes up but then falls right back down to the lower one I mentioned. One thing I can think that I didn't do when I installed it was to put a cap on the line coming from the stock solenoid. Could this cause a vacuum leak and then keep the pressure from going throught the Greddy solenoid and therefore not opperate the actuator correctly? Do I need to plug that line? Any help would be appreciated.

If I want to put a cap on the solenoid nipple heading to the actuator which one is it. Is it the top one or the bottom one. I know one comes from a the pressure chamber and I don't want to remove it.

I have the same boost controller but have not put it on. I kinda sounds like you have the gain set too high in relationship to your boost setting? If memory serves me correct, if you set your gain too high, you will spike right? Maybe your boost setting ( controls wastegate opening right?) is too high and that is causing your wastegate to open too much or too early, hence the drop in boost?
From what I have read, you just unplug the vacuum line coming from the stock solenoid, no need to cap it off.

FWIW, here are some settings I copied and pasted that someone posted. They differ quite a bit from yours...

for 10 psi....

37-38% duty cycle
0-2% gain
9.5 Set/start boost

Here is where to start... set everything to the minimum, all the numbers are in the manual, then turn everything up from there. Right now I have my set at 25%, gain at around 15%, and I forget where my start boost is at, but I am running about 9.5psi with quick spool up(havent had tons of time to fine-tune). My reccomendation is do the same, start with everything on the minimum settings, then start to turn things up, makes everything much easier and safer.

I quite agree with wtgator69 the spec II can be a pain if you don't know where to start so.. you want to start with everything at the lowest setting and gradually increase your settings until you can get a solid boost pattern.

Just for your info my settings are: gain 9%, set .25%, and boost is at ~25% depending on weather.

I run a dp/mp/cb/intake and i can hold a solid .70 bar (with the help of a pre-control valve to tune out transition) with no ecu. It takes a bit of trial and error but you can tune it.

Just turn em all the way up max and forget it about it, no wait, don't do that, do what everyone else said.

Don't mind me, just whoring through.

Straight from the manual....

SET:
This mode is used to set the desired boost pressure. The % set in this mode is not the actual boost pressure. This feature controls the duty rate of the Valve Unit which controls the boost. Raise the % to increase the boost, and lower the % to decrease the boost.

*100% setting will boost up the turbocharger/wastegate limit.

*0% will boost the base boost (stock boost)

GAIN:
This mode is used to adjust the boost consistency.(Adjusts the sensitivity of the valve control.)

*When boost spike occurs, lower the GAIN valve.

*When the boost falls off at high rpm, or the boost increases as rpm increases, raise the GAIN value.

START BOOST
This mode is used to adjust the boost response. This feature basically adjusts when to start opening the wastegate.

* If the START BOOST value is closer to the SET BOOST value, the spool up will be faster.

*If it is too close to the SET BOOST, it will cause the boost to spike.

Hope this helps...
