Honestly, the easiest way is with the Mazda SST. Without that, you will need to use a conventional pilot bearing puller, which can be rented from autozone and the like. You will need to grind down the fingers to get them to fit into the pilot bearing however.

I have one of the Mazda tools and if you were local you could borrow it, but Kansas isnt too close to NJ

Where are you at in Kansas? If you aren't too far from KC, you can borrow mine.

Try toilet paper! or spelled toilette paper, I can't spell.

I did it on my car, it takes a little time. repack hit, repack hit, etc. untill done. Most people just don't stick with it long enough. I think it took me like twenty minutes of packing and hitting. Make sure what ever you use as a punch fits closely. That is the most important part, oh and don't use Charmon.

if your lucky you can pack the hole with grease and take a metal clutch alingment tool and use the close fitting pin and push it in. The grease should push the bearing out, if your lucky I havn't done it on a FD but it works on a Jeep for sure.

Harbor freight tools online. Buy their pilot bearing tool, around $14, grind down the feet, and away you go.

I just did this...went to autozone and they had bearing puller that I had to grind - take your new bearing with you for sizing...took like 2 min to grind with a dremmel. Then rented the slide hammer and it came out with 3 slides. I had been trying it with a hammer and metal hook tool for hours...

I can get the autozone part #'s if you need them.

Good luck,

Autozone part numbers -

27059 pilot bearing puller - $18
27033 slide hammer - $20

You can return the slide hammer after use.

I remember that someone once said: the Autozone pilot bearing puller is too big. It will fit if you grind it down. But the Autozone "Blind Hole Puller" fits without modification. If you can ask about that too.

If they have both tools, borrow both. You get your money back.
