Thumbs up Pillowball Bushings -- Great deal from Malloy Mazda (now-June 30)

I had a talk with the parts department from Malloy Mazda about a possible deal for the RX7Club. Eventually, I negotiated a deal for 6 pillowball bushings at $300 shipped. If you take into consideration what you would pay normally at the dealership, you will realize that the savings are pretty grand.

If you guys want to get in on this deal, call up the parts department (you don't necessarily need to talk to Ray Crowe, since he is usually up to his ears in work) and tell them that you want in on the 6 pillowball deal. The deal only lasts from now until June 30th, so don't procrastinate like I did on the last deal.

I forgot to add that the number to Malloy Mazda is: 1-703-490-8170 (ask for the parts dept.).

Now this is to get rid of the clunking right? But what are the other benefits?

It also gets rid of spooky suspension vagueness. Replacing the pillow ***** is a no-brainer, must-do-it if you have bad ones.

The problem is they can still be bad even if you don't have any clunking......(ie- slight side to side wheel movement if you shake it at the 3 and 9 oclock position)
It's a real PITA to figure out which one is bad then.

Is this cheaper then Mazda Motosports Development? I'd call but I am in a cubicle city and I don't want my coworkers to hear me on the phone talking about pillows and *****.

ok mine are fucked then... lol

vague question here though:

I plan on purchasing coilovers in the next three weeks. Now if install them and also replace the 6 pillowball bushings should my FD's supension feel like "new" but a little stiffer?

Should be an improvement... but there are also a few other bushings: "suspension" bushing for the shock and the two bushings for the upper control arms. That's 3 bushings and 1 pillow ball per upper control arm.

Just replacing the pillow ball in each of the control arms made my car feel ALOT better. Clunking reduced by about 75% rear feels a little stiffer... hahaha joke in there somewhere

Mazda Motorsports will always be cheaper, but you have to be a member of course. Ray is for us non-members - damn, if only my region will get a new autocross site!

Here's my writeup on the pillow ball replacement -

http://www.clubrx.org/default.asp?id...ntent=32&mnu=5

If you have an impact gun, it's VERY easy. The second side I did took like 30-45 minutes, TOTAL.

You will probably also need new toe link bushings (or aftermarket toe links, but the stock links with new OEM bushings will last longer) in the rear, and perhaps some upper or lower control arms if you have bad ball joints in front (does the front clunk? mine did and it turned out to be the upper ball joints).

Sounds like a good deal WaLieN. Let me know when you want to get together to install them.

Will do Adam -- by the time I got back to my apt., the parts department had already closed for 35mins. I plan on ordering them tomorrow, and hopefully get them by this weekend.

Just my rear clunks not the front. But in the last couple of months my rear end feels a little funny. Thanks Max I will look into toe link bushings also.

How much of a deal is this? What would it cost normally?

No noticeable problems on mine, but i'll have the car forever, so might as well stock up if this is substantial.

I know i need bushings. But whenever im at a stop light and I come off the clutch to move the car vibrates like nuts. What bushings do I need to replace?

Well, Ray informed me that the price he is giving it to us at is almost at cost. With the shipping (2day) included, they are not making very much off of us, if anything. IIRC, the last time I called my local dealer, they asked for ~$70 each bushing. If I were you, I'd order them before the price goes up even higher.
