Why not just put them where the r1 and base rear speakers are at. All the touring has in place there is like a pocket panel, which seems could be removed by a tug.

This is true. While cleaning my car after I first got it, I found that the pocket panels could indeed be removed with a tug and the hole that is left would be perfect for mounting a speaker.

I love this color combo. I'm still surprised how many FD owners don't know that it was ever offered as a color combination.
