Uh, that's the RE Amemiya one with the optional Bowtech generator. Mazdaspeed one looks nothing like that.

Why is it that Ferrari is able to design elegant looking diffusers and the Japanese come up with diffusers looking like you ran over some plastic garbage container?

have you ever looked under the rear end of a newer ferrari? most of them have diffusers similar in design to the one above, they just tone it down for the street so it is more drivable, and they also cover up the rear end with a bumper. the diffuser on the car above is a true race piece, and is not going to look like anything that comes from a factory.

i love ferrari too, but you dont need to swing off their nuts all the time.

Wow. That's just way too much IMO. Any word on if it actually aids airflow on the track?

 

Consider that for looks only. A diffusor can generate downforce via the venturi incorporated into it but in the case of the FD the underbody airflow would be so poor that the diffusor won't have much to contribute. The whole underside of the car would need to be cleaned up in order for it to work well.

I'm sure everyone will argue with me and their proof will be "They use them in Japan" as always

 

Hey guys, not to go off topic, but what exhaust is the blue FD running in that pic?

 

I agree... even though the newer models seem to be wind tunnel tested, and supposedly add in the aerodynamics, above 120 or something like that... I don't drive 120 much, and I'd rather own something cleaner looking like the old style RE-A's that Chuck sold a while back... (hence I bought one)

 

Well, considering that the Japanese ones are a design "afterthought" and that they are aftermarket they won't look as good as one that is integrated from the factory as part of the original design like the Ferraris, GT40, Viper GTS-R, Carrera GT.......

The simple fact is the Japanese go fo straight function first and style takes a back seat. Also, keep in mind the amount of money each car sells for. I'd expect a great looking piece for my Ferarri just because of the cost of the car. Also, most of these parts made in Japan are ment strictly for the track and therefore looks aren't as important. At least this is just my opinion from my experience in this industry. Personally I like the way it looks. Not so much the finished product but from a pure functional stand point.

 

Any Piece of cardboard, given enough duct tape, would work, since you're just trying to smooth out the airflow, from the gas tank to the piece of "trim" that sits at an agle into the airflow...
