Thumbs up pfc comander problem fixed!!!!! detailed write up

just wanted to let u guys know that my pfc commander problem last night has been solved

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...=1#post3895156

basicaly i got the guts to open the commander up (no warranty anyways so what the hell)

there are 2 phillips heads on the lower backside of the commander that need to be removed

and the rest are just snaps, crack it open with tiny screwdriver for eye glass

after opening i noticed that the wires on the bottom were all connected to the board except for one ( its brown!!!!)

so i just got a fine soldering wire and mild soldering iron, and reattached it

make sure u dont keep the iron on the board too long, i just tap it on the board a coulple times and got it reconnected

before u put it back together make sure you test it, mine came alive again

and yeh clean off the clear display from the inside, mine had lint all over

after that just put the phillips screws back ( do not overtighten )and snap back the rest of the cover

and YOUR DONE!! and think about this u just saved yourself 300 bux for a new comander

good luck on your fix

thanx
mike

Glad you whupped it! Many times with solid-state electronics it's a simple fix like that. Good job!

How did your commander act before you fixed it?

I also have a problem with it, it's stuck on APEX-i the first display after I turn the ignition on, doesn't move even if I press any button.

Great fix man, I'll give it a shot and see if anything is loose in there.
Thanks for sharing...

I sort of did the same thing a couple months back but I opened it up and had 2 disconnected wires. I re-soldered them and the thing works now but still no light. Oh well, one of these days I will get it.

My backlight went out, it was the same time the entire commander died so I think it is just one of the wires still just needs to be re-connected. Probably I did a bad soldering job.

i dunno the whole damn thing seems pretty simple to me. I have plans separating the two boards, relocating the screen, and putting the pad elsewhere. The whole thing seems like it could be made quite a bit smaller and detracts from most interior setups.

anyhow good to hear that it was such a simple fix.

I was implying that such a fix doesn't require your so called detailed write-up. All you had to do was state the problem with your commander and the solution. I'm sure almost everyone on here can figure out how to remove some screws and solder a wire.

If i do need to fix my commander some day I'll be sure to pull up your write-up and get all the details

Yes, you right about that, they fry often, but the commander is nothing special to it, is like a freaking calculator of some sort, or a similar electronic device that fall millions of times on the floor and never happens nothing to them.
