Pettit Toe link control installation
Hi,
i bought the pettit toe link control rods. Of course no instructions... (come on guys would an hour taken to write a document in Microsoft word have killed yeah?)
Anyways,
I took the old one's off and when to install the new pettit units.
Could someone that has done it before help me out?
Where the connnector attaches to the wheel assembly there is not enough room between the "Socket" that holds the link rod and where the toe link attaches to the undercarriage of the car there is to much room.
TIA
I would do a search... but.

I did, I talked to the sales guy. Granted he is a sales guy, but he said that the wheel assembly I should be able to "knock" some spacer loose. Which I can see happening, however the undercarriage side, that has to much space, I'm still stumped on.

You have to tap the bushing back in order to fit in the new toe link. Look closely at the holes in the knuckle where the toe link goes. One of them has a steel sleeve in it that sticks out into the gap where the toe link installs. Tap it back with a hammer and Presto!
I had the same problem as you when installing mine; finally got an answer after being passed around.

AH HA! yes that was exactly what I was talking about. That explains the knucke wheel assembly. (you would think they could at least write a word document). What did you do about all the extra space at the other end of the toe link assembly. (Where it attaches to the undercarriage)?
TIA!!!!!!

You do have the steel, cone shaped spacers right? The inner ones on mine had less than a 1/16" gap in the mounts so I just let the bolt pinch it together. If you have more than that I would add some washers; you don't want to distort that tab much.
For what it's worth the lower front strut mounts and the front sway bar mounts in the a-arms are the same way. I had to tap the strut mounts back when installing my Konis. The steel sleeves are there so the bolts have a nice hard surface to ride in as opposed to the soft aluminum.

I do have the cone shaped spacers. On the inner ones there is more than 1/16th space. it maybe even a little more than 1/8th. So I'm a little nervous about the washers, but I will double check tonight.
The steel sleeves make complete sense. I just didn't want to go knocking stuff out if I didn't need to...
Thanks DamonB I appriciate the help!
