Pettit Cool Charge IC vs. PFS IC - Which to choose?

Hello all,

I'm curious which of these two intercoolers would be the better choice. I've found the core size on the Pettit, but I can't seem to find this information on the PFS. Does anyone know which one is larger? Beyond core size, is there anything that really sets these apart in terms of efficiency? Any input would be appreciated.

Regards,
Gavin

I would go with Pettit. Just my opinion. I really can't think of any hard reasons as why I would go with pettit, but I would.

Are you referring to the Cool Charge II or III?

The II looks much smaller than the PFS IC. Both allow you to keep the air pump but it looks like your intake options will be limited (especially with the PFS):

The Cool Charge III is basically a copy of the ASP/M2 IC. In that case, I believe air pump removal and battery relocation are a must.

Wow, i just looked and they changed the pettit from the version in the catalog view to the one in the "installed view"... looks pretty puny compared to the old one... i'd go w/ PFS, unless your getting a used version of the olkd Pettit model... that new one looks like a powdercoated mazdacomp upgrade.

If you don't use Farrells intake you'll beed to plug the tupe coming off the duct. I used the top to a paint can.

The farrel also has cast hard pipes, a tab for mounting the AST, and the duct actually bolts to it, for a snug fit.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm actually talking about the Cool Charge II, but it is not the one on their website, it is the one in this pic. I'm not sure if this is an older version or not, but someone is selling it nonetheless. I'd prefer to take the one with the larger core, so if anyone has any specs, that would be great.

Regards,
Gavin

I have the 'old' CCII and I love it. Going on looks, I'd argue that the surface area of the fins is the same size as the PFS. I'm sure that both will perform very similar. Here's another pic of the (unpolished) CCII:

Functionally, they are essentially identical (old style Pettit II).

As Ptrhahn pointed out, I think it's nice that the PFS bolts to the duct (I still needed to seal the edges anyway).

Btw, the core sizes are here:

As you can see, the PFS is just a hair bigger.
