I have HID's on stock flip ups.
I'd explain where I put mine but it might not make a damn bit of sense.
I'll try to take some pictures for you if you want...

Do the HID bulbs in the stock housing splash light onto the road with an improvement over stock? I know they are brighter and have more exposure but our lenses arent designed for the HID lightbeam so I always thought it wouldnt be as good as a stock HID setup or possibly worse than stock halogens.

I'm considering taking the plunge into HID's but I would want to get bright bulbs for my fogs and driving lights as well as try to 'clear' the facetting on the stock lenses.

Yes and no. It is definitely a major improvement over the stock halogens, as well as any H4 bulb you can buy. But the beam pattern isn't as good as a OE-style HID using a proper projector beam (which is basically what is needed due to the light spectrum refraction properties of a xenon gas discharge bulb), with a cutoff that isn't as sharp. Problem being that you must custom fabricate a projector beam setup for the stock popup lights, or purchase a sleek light kit. Also, the retrofit kits are no longer legal for the market, so you'll have to find them from a private party.
