Passing emissions?

So I just recently purchased a 94 R1 with non sequential twins powered by PFC. Its running a tad rich. Car has MP DP and Racing Beat exhaust. Should I have any problems with emissions in Houston TX (2 speed idle testing county)? Is there a way to force the car to pass emissions without bribing the guys?

extremely unlikely or impossible with a mp.....

You might want to find someone with a working stock cat to temporarily put on to pass

Is it gonna pass for sure with the cat? The non sequential twins wont mess the readings up?

FYI: 94 is probably an R2 but who cares anyways. :-P :-)

Good Luck on emissions, a bribe may be the way to go.

Non-Seq. Doesn't enter into the category.... since the twins shouldn't spool untill 2.5 / 3K (Seq); 3-4k (non-seq) anyhow, so the tuner shouldn't go that high anyhow..

The PFC going rich is going to be a lot of troubble... either swap it for the stock ecu, or lean it out as close as you can to stoich(sp) 14.7 AFR I think, and "Tread Lightly" to the Smog shop... once passed, dl the old map and let the lead foot rule

Get a Datalogit, or find someone with one... it's extremely unlikely that you'll pass with a rich setup at Idle...

I need to start reading up on this. I have a car I barely know how to **** with. Damn me for jumping into this. Oh well. I found a guy who will pass me no matter what so I'll just figure out a way to pass next year.

This is precisely why it is the seller's responsibility to smog the car in California. Also, you should be able to pass with the PFC at low rpm without any problems, PROVIDED YOU HAVE A CAT.

7RACER:

I'm in Houston and bracing for my first test. I have a downpipe, intake and PFC with base map. I think I should pass but it seems to run a touch rich so I want to be cautious. I'm going to warm the car up prior to testing and have it tested warm. I also plan to over inflate the rear tires to reduce rolling resistance as mcuh as possible.

salamander,

i know that some peoples stock cat no longer works but mine hasn't seen the abuse of rich maps...

with that being said I didn't take any chances and made sure the car was warmed up and left the car idling until they got to it.....so it was sitting for about 15 mins at idle before the test...

GOOD LUCK!

I know some people can pass with a high flow....but just from some of the post on here and from experiences of some friends with the high flow is that you can clog them and they no longer work as well.....I hope my knightsport one with that new metallit technology last....
