FL Padded map pocket?

I've seen several padded map pocket lids that have been permanently shut, looks good.

Anyone seen a how to on doing this?

Looks simple, which means it likely isn't.

Thanks for any help.

+1 on this. I could care less for the pocket itself, but missing the lid for this long t is finally getting old. My plan is to use a thin piece of aluminum and cut it to shape. Once set for good fitment get a 12"x 12" strip of foam and cut it to the same size. Then take a sheet of matching vinyl or leather and cut to the shape with an extra 3". Tuck it around and fasten it. Fasteners could be utilized by simply using a quality glue or tack welding small angled hooks. Seal it to the base and your good.

A shop could make a killing with a quality example. The JDM pocket on the shifter arm is a great upgrade. Having a nice rest for the door side would be nice.

^ LOL, I hate that JDM "arm rest" It is in the wrong position for tall people and opens the wrong way.

I like the map pocket for my registration and insurance papers for when I need it; which has been more often lately since the open wastegates.

My lid was there when I bought it and never bothered to open it because I knew how fragile they were. When I refinished my plastics, I played around with it slightly. There is a small eyelet that the hinge pin goes through and it was broken on mine which caused it to open very awkwardly. I noticed the spring that snaps it open and closed is VERY stiff. I went ahead and bent the spring slightly so that it wasn't so harsh on the tiny plastic mounts. Now it opens and closes smoothly and I have faith in it not breaking. +1 on it being a good spot for insurance papers and what not. I'll have to do that :p

Mine was a little awkward at first. But after leaning forward, pulling my arms back and tilting my neck, I feel that the $90 pad was completely worth it.

Ready to try and cover it -- Now I've managed to loose the lid to the map pocket. . .
Anyone have an extra one -- doesn't have to work, I'm gonna glue it shut before covering.

thanks

I have wished that someone made a drop-in map pocket replacement padded armrest to match the JDM padded ashtry for a long time. Thought about trying my hand at making one but I'm garbage at arts and crafts :P

I like the looks of that, and I LOVE MY JDM ARMREST. It's one of the best things I have added to my car. I no longer hit my elbow on the the pad that sits behind it when shifting fast, and its very comfortable.

Not mine, just a pic that I had saved. I want to try it though if I can find another lid.
