Cool OVERHEATING r2, any Help!!!

My 94 is starting to overflow coolant and I can see it coming from the resevoir on the left side after the car warms up to operating temps, it is a 94 r2 with 76 original miles. Any ideas as to where I start, should I take it in or can I fix it myself? Any help is appreciated, also does anyone know of any rx7 shops in charlotte,NC.

Ack. It could be that your coolant seals have let go. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but you may be looking at a rebuild. My original motor's coolant seals died on me at 63k miles for no apparent reason.

You dont think it could be a thermostat sticking or something of the sort??It runs pretty good beside this issue.

is there a large volume of white smoke coming out the tailipipe at startup? that is another sign of bad coolant seals.

It wouldnt hurt to replace the tstat, and flush and burp the system.

Have you added any coolant recently, or over the winter? It could be that the system is too full. Is the car overheating? Doesn't sound like it.

I suggest that you replace both coolant caps. It sounds like your ast cap may not be holding pressure any more. Buy oem caps, and make sure that you don't get them switched .......... make sure the right cap is in the right place.

I am wondering what coolant caps would have to do with his overflow tank overflowing? I would think that if your caps are bad (not sealing for the correct pressure) that they would leak around the seals. Not the overflow. Not that I know.

Trouble shoot in this order
1. Coolant caps
2. Thermostat
3. Radiator
4. Radiator Fans
5. Engine seals.

But at the age of the engine I'm already leaning towards 5!

If your AST cap is old, the spring may not hold enough pressure. If it won't hold the pressure, the hot coolant can overflow into the overflow tank. The top of the cap may seal, but that doesn't mean that the cap is good.
