Prolite fly wheel
Prolite fly wheel
I'm about the get a JDM tranny and I'm considering a pro lite fly wheel before I slap it all back together. Do I need a counter weight for the pro lite, I remember reading that I did....not sure anymore.
If you had the original manual transmission flywheel, then yes, you will definitely need a counterweight. Just buy an 89-95 rear counterweight and you'll be set. The weight of the rotors between the years of 89-95 were all the same. I would suggest finding a used one. If not, just buy one from mazdatrix.com.
Thanks a ton. i'LL MAKE SURE JUST INCASE WHEN i ORDER IT. By the way should I get a fidanza or a act pro lite? The fidenza is a lot more expensive...but it it says its about a lb lighter....what do you guys think?
There you go..
Installed the counter weight then fw to the counter weight.
With Prolight I feel no driveability at all although seller suggested street light as he said prolight would be too light for the street.

In terms of drivability... what happens? I never had a light weight flywheel so I have no idea what it feels like in drivablility terms....
So if the flywheel is too light then what becomes uncomfortable?
One thing for sure is that if you are using the car as a daily driver then never get an ACT race clutch... it really kills your feet.... I'm going through this one....

On my 2003 Tiburon, I had a fidanza 9lb flywheel and a SPEC stage 3 clutch (autocrossing, responsiveness was sweet!)
Daily drivability was comprimised, easier to kill, etc... but once I was used to it, it was cake. It was when (IF) someone else was in the driver's seat that trouble came up. Someone not expecting the lack of forgiveness that the stock flywheel and clutch offers will definately jerk it around, rev it, kill it, hump it, spank it and beat it up at first. unless they're careful and cool like my girlfriend.

I got the Act Prolite flywheel...Counter weight...Along with the Spec 2 clutch and I installed them both at the same time...And WOW..It made a huge difference....
It seemed to be like the RPM's climb alot faster with the light flywheel...I have no documentation or prof...But my car defineately felt alot faster after the install...
So I say the lightweight flywheel is a HUGE plus....Just my .02 cents..
Thanks,
Shawn
