Overheat questions (water pump)

There is an 3rd Gen RX7 that I am considering purchasing, I had spoken with the owner and asked him if the car has ever overheated. His reply was that It had begun to overheat while he was driving on the freeway and he pulled over immediatly. He continued on by saying that the cause of the overheat was due to a broken water pump (about 1 month ago). He has replaced the water pump since and the engine appears to be in shape. I had driven the car and it *appeared* to be ok. It is my understanding that if the engine overheats that it means probable if not certain death for the engine and it is time for a rebuild.

My question to you is do you believe that the engine is damaged due to this? I am having it checked out by a rotary specialist tomorrow. Is there anything that I should specifcally mention in regards to this matter?

What is almost overheat? Many people have different meanings for this... If overheat means steam from any part of the cooling system then its an overhaul.. Otherwise you might me OK, make sure you cheak the oil for coolant and the overflow for white chunky ****...
