Overboosting with Dawes

I just installed a Dawes Device bc and a hope depot needle valve for prespool and I cant get my boost controlled, at all. I backed the nut out all the way, and then blew through the controller with no restriction. I took the car out for a test drive and I am still boosting reaching 13+ psi. What's going on?

Also, the needle valve is opened 1/8 turn and the hoses are connected correctly.

Bite the bullet and get an electronic boost controller.

Much easier to control, and you know exactly what you're setting. Not 1/8 or 1/2 turn this way to increase x psi...

Could it be possible that the needle valve isnt opened enough, causing no boost to be diverted to precontrol? Im gonna go try opening it more.

I had it turned a 1/4 turn when I read that 1/8 turn should be used to start, but yeah I still needed to turn it more. I went ahead and adjusted it to 1/2 turn and BAM 10-8-10 solid on the first try. Bumped up the boost on the Dawes a little and now I'm at 11-9-11 with transition compltely normal. Thanks for the help guys I can finally boost again
