Thumbs down I don't like my Dawes Device Boost Controller Anymore

After installing my Defi Boost gauge, I can see how the dawes device rapidly opens and closes to control boost. The Defi gauge is so sensitive that the needle flutters when at your max boost. I think its the dawes device's valve opening and closing that makes this happin. This is what the needle looks like: Hold one finger in front of your face, now move it back and forth about two inches as fast as you can. Thats what it does. Its anoying and seems like a pretty sloppy way to control boost. I think I'll get an electronic boost controller instead.

Mine doesn't do that either.

Many boost gauges come with a very small pill insertd into the pressure hose. This is used to prevent/reduce pressure pulses like the pulsation dampener does for the fuel system. When I test removed mine from my boost gauge, it would flutter. Verify if your Defi is suppose to have one or not.

Chuck's right, make sure you have a pill. I don't have one in my PFS gauge and have been meaning to get one. I have a dawes controller and my gauge flutters, but it also did that when I had the home depot boost control. Where can I get just the pill from, anyone know?

i think you may have another problem or perhaps the valve is sticking

the dawes valve does not "rapidly open and close"...I think you are confused...it is basically a check valve that opens at a pre-set point to control pressure in the wastegate actuator line....see R.R's description http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobi...boost_note.htm
I never get boost creep. My wastegate was enlarged more than average on my upgraded twins. My dawes device does control boost the way it's suppost to but I dont like the way it works on my setup. The dawes device does have the ability to rapidly open and close if you think about it. Say your building boost and when the check valve inside the dawes opens it causes the wastegate to open too much which in turn lowers the boost and makes the dawes close again. Then the cycle keeps repeating itself. You can't deny that the check valve opens and closes... what does it open once and stay open forever? No.
The problem is not that bad... I'm just being **** on this one. I think i might have made it too sensitive by using 6mm vacuum hose with less than 1 ft on each end of the device. Maybe if i use more hose it will cut back on the sensitivity, but then I would probably get boost spike. Oh, and no Defi boost gauges are not suppost to have pills in them, but thanks anyways.

btw, gsxr1000...

I not confused on how the device works. Your acting like i thought the dawes device worked off of a duty cycle priciple. Brother Please!

Open your Dawes and make sure that little ball is lined up right. Mine gave me a CRAZY boost pattern that I couldn't figure out. THen I opened it up and lined everything up and just screwed it back together (about 2 times) and everything has been perfect ever since. The ball is not perfectly round for some reason and it was fouling up the boost pattern.

my needle flutters at max boost and I do NOT have a Dawes Device. It started when it got cold. Is it because my wastegate cannot handle the extra boost. My WG is not ported.

FDRacer.....these are your words, are they not? you were confused, you just don't want to admit it

the dawes is just a little pressure relief valve, it does not "rapidly open and close", I talked to the guy that created it
