wats up everyone,




ive had my car stored all winter and its starting to get really nice out.....so i started up my FD and shes over heating really bad, to the point where smoke/steam is coming out of my engine, ( its coming from where the coolant is poured into, u kno where that yellow cap is ), now i did upgrade my radiator to a koyo radiator and i did up grade my hoses to stainless steal hoses. as of right now im really confused as to why this is happening and wat the problem could be. im starting to suspect my water pump is blow but i doubt it cuz the car was perfect when i parked her!!


on my Power FC commander the water temp. reaches temps. up to 130 degrees Celsius, does any one around where the temp should be normally? and also how much coolant do u guys recommend me to pour into the who system? take note i will be adding a water-air intercooler from PWR soom.

Wow. You might have damaged the motor already, 130 is WAY too hot. Even at idle with no load.......I'd bet money your fans arent coming on.

So the car overheated just by idling?

I would check simple things like thermostat (could be stuck closed), pressure cap on the AST or filler, wherever your spring loaded cap is, its normally on the AST.

Other instances could have been you were low or had no coolant at all.

I keep my car stored but take it out every month or so to drive 30 - 40 miles to keep it lubed. My temps at ~180 F. Possibly something corroded.

Sounds like a stuck thermostat from sitting.

at idle my car runs at around 90 degrees celsius if it gets to 100 I stop driving. You really should have looked into that since you own an FD heat is the biggest worry about our car. Sorry to say but you probably blew your motor so that really sucks I know how it feels.

wait, i dont understand, how do u guys think that my motor blew if its over heating? i mean she starts up right away with out a problem....her temp. just reaches temps that it shouldnt

Just tow the car to GoodfellaFD3S so they can look at it and hopefully your coolant seals aren't toast! Overheating above 120 C is really really bad, especially if you're not even driving it, wow... like how long did it take to reach 130 C? That's amazing, I would have turned the car off around 105C for sure.

What can happen is that the housing can warp if they overheat. This causes the coolant seals to then be compromised, thus needing a rebuild.

I'm not saying your motor did this, but this is what can happen when a rotary motor overheats. It sounds like your thermostat isn't opening. Either tow it to a shop, or pull the thermostat out to test it.

You could have possibly warped the seals, among other things, by keeping it running with that high a temperature. Warped coolant seals = new motor needed.

He said he upgraded to a koyo radiator. my bet is the system isnt burped and he has a nice air bubble right after the thermostat by the waterpump. Thus no flow, and no warm coolant to kick the fans on.

Well he said the car overheated before he upgraded the radiator.

MY assumption is either car had very low or NO coolant at all to begin with, the thermostat is/was stuck closed, the fans arent coming on or theres something else he is not telling us that is vital information.

nope i told u guys everything, i parked the car about early dec. and in the mean time while it was parked i upgraded to the koyo radiator and other stuff but the other stuff have nothing to do with the cooling system, such as the pulleys, intake, and new piping. and i did add a whole container of fluid that i bought from mazda and since then my car has been having this issue. now i did see that BigJim mentioned something about an air bubble, in the event that i might have an air bubble, how would i get it out? and how much fluid do u guys recommend?

also i wanted to ask if anyone has removed their A/C unit and piping and if so if you could PM and as to what you did to remove it. im looking into eliminating my A/C system thanks

You can have the shop delete your A/C for free if you want to keep overheating it.

if you keep overheating your engine and worry about unimportant things, such as removing yor A/C, you can just ask the shop to not bother reinstalling your A/C after the $6k+ engine rebuild.

All I'm saying is you have much larger problems to worry about than removing your A/C. Get the overheating resolved first. It could be a $50 thermosensor that will save you a very expensive engine.

That's what I had to use to burp the air out of my system. Worked great! I tried to fill up the system before using that device and just wasnt working at all.

so you upgraded the radiator then the heating issues came about. Do this for us. Start your car, let it start to warm up. dont let it overheat. I REPEAT DONT LET IT OVERHEAT. but once the gauge is around half way turn your heat on and tell us if you have any heat coming out of your dash vents. THEN TURN YOUR CAR OFF BEFORE IT GOES ANYWHERE FURTHER THAN HALF WAY.

If you are getting no heat, note that heat only comes out of the feet and windshield vents not your other vents, then you dont have enough coolant or your have an air bubble.
