Over heating?

K I have a 95 FD, I just had a new reman installed street port and had to replace the radiator, after I replaced the radiator I drove it around for about 10 minutes and it started smoking... it was smoking out of the radiator hose... Also the temp gauge isnt working... I had a new termostat installed but it doesnt seem like its working. Any idea's what could be going on?

I really cant help without some gauge info, Maybe it needed to be burped somemore.

Personaly i would never run with out a temp and oil pressure gague.

Was the gauge not working do to wiring or gauge problems or maybe it was really low on water so it cant read right

Just my .02 with the supplied info

You have to "burp" the sytem well. Try a search here and also don't overheat the car!

Running without a temperature reading on the engine along with cooling problems = new Engine, over and over and over until the gauge is repaired.

Which is cheaper - repair temperature gauge or new engine ?

You can search "burp".... but air gets trapped in the cooling system when you fill the radiator for the first time,so by burping the system you are removing the trapped air that is giving you overheating problems.
I usually idle my car until it gets warm, usually for a few minutes turn it off grab a towel (it shoud not be so hot that it will burn you if it is wait 30 minutes) pull the cap off the coolant filler neck and let the air escape. You may end up doing this many times to get all the air out.

REMOVE the AIR from the system. If not done it can cause all kinds of problems the least of which could be ruining a new motor. The stock gauge isn't much but it will tell you something.

Call Ray at Malloy mazda Parts ,tell him you're on the forum, 703 490 8170, and order a new temp sender for $30.00. The sender is located under the oil filter pedestal just below the oil sender unit in the rear iron. This is the quickest fix to get some sense of the systems temp. Eventually get an aftermarket temp gauge.

I had to replace mine after my radiator went. I changed it with a 10mm or 12 mm deep socket, easy to reach from above.

its still being a bitch... it just heats the coolant up really fast... i have a water temp gauge i can watch it with on my apexi power fc so im okay about not overheating it... but i tried burping the cooling system like 7 or 8 times, and everytime theres so much air, even if it only starts for a minute... Any ideas? Also the ast was removed, new one is on the way... but i cant imagine just the AST will solve everything....

Rent a pressure tester and see if you find a leak.

Do not run your car without a pressurized 13lb cap, The AST has that cap. The small yellow cap is not pressurized and used only for topping the system.

I repeat Rent That Tester, it is the only way to find out if you have a leak! If you can't rent one find a garage and have them put the tester on the car.

How are you running the car without the AST? What did you do with the lines?
