opinion needed, possible purchase
i just came back from checking out an rx-7 and i was wondering if i could get your opinion on the car before i go through with the purchase.
its a 1993 montego blue
187,000 km (approx 116000 miles) on the original motor
minor chips and scratches to paint
had some white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe when it started but dissappeared when it heated up
idled around 1500
brakes and tranny good
large chip in the front windshield
9/10 interior (although the glovebox hinge seems to be broken, anyone dealt with this)
he said he would safety and e-test it as well as toss in a free engine with about 40,000km on it
i got the cost down $13,500 canadian, so obviously, i'll have to get back to the guy soon.
overall, i think its a good deal, i just wanted to hear what everyone else had to say about it

im not to sure why it was idleing wrong, i just assumed it was due to the old engine. i did test drive it, it seemed pretty good, although this is the first 3rd gen i drove so i have nothing to really go by. and sadly there was no boost gauge.

I'm not to sure about the quality of the other engine. basically i'm just going on his word, although i guess thats not the smartest move on my part. he told me that the clip worked fine and that he picked it up for when the engine finally gave on the 7. now that he's selling it he doesnt need the clip anymore so he tossed it in since it was taking up space.
sadly the guy lives a couple hours away, so its not to easy to go check out the car. when
it comes down to it, i suppose this isnt the best deal, im just somewhat eager to try to find an fd to buy.
well anyways, here's a link to the ebay page where i first saw it, if anyone wants to know what it looks like:

Buy a boost gauge and take it with you whenever you go to check out a car. Assuming the engine is still running properly it will help you determine if the turbos are too. I checked out the trader (Ontario) and there are a couple of fds for sale - a MB with 136k and VR with only 71k for $14,995 (carefull of this one as the price seems a little too low). Good luck!
A 93 FD with 116,000 miles on the motor = Apex seal about to give way!! Which explains why he has thrown in a second motor.
From what I have seen and experienced, apex seals on the 93 models go out at @ 60,000 - 80,000 miles - mine went at 88,000.
Good luck, but I'd keep looking.

I recently picked up my first FD! It took me 11 months to get one, but I did!!! Got a good deal on mine! Bought it 3 months ago with compression of 105 psi on both rotors, 30,000 miles or so on engine... so happy about the purchase! Just get the right one, don't just jumo into it.
