one of my solenoids isnt working properly, causing the second turbo not to come on!!!

Guys well one of my solenoids is missed up here, you see i get good boost from the primary turbo with 10 pounds rightway but once the secondary turbo comes in at 4000rpm i get no boost!!!! i have to really hammer the throttle down in order for the second turbo to build boost and eventually get the 10 pounds. This idiffenently sounds like one of the solenoids isn't working properly which is causing the second turbo not to come on, so how can i fix the problem? i know both the solenoids are located right under the manifold behined the black box, which one do i remove? and where do i get another solenoid? and how much is it for a solenoid? or is the solenoid repairable?

Get a mity-vac tool and test the solenoids. You should also check the voltage... I did the replaced my vacuum hoses about two years ago. In the process I broke one of the solenoids right under the UIM(or behind the black box), and it cost $130 at Mazda. The solenoids on the rack are cheaper...

well if you've never dug that deep in your car before, yes, it will be a bitch. but once you've done it its pretty straightforward. be forewarned that when you start digging deep into the high mileage cars its like taking one step forward and two steps back. you'll get to the solenoid, but in the process of getting to it you'll probably break something else. there gets to be a lot of heat scorched brittle plastic in the engine bay around 80,000 miles.

these solenoids are located underneath the extension manifold correct? righ behined the black box, so in order for me to get to them i will have to remove the vim, i think i might leave that **** to my mechanic.

How comfortable are you with a wrench? It's really not that hard, but it's time consuming. Why take of the UIM just to replace the solenoid? Replace the hoses and zip tie them while you're at it...

Check out Rob Robinette's site(well the archive of it) for instructions.

I hope you have a good mechanic. If not, you will do a better job. I always have things come back worse than when I leave them.

Probably one of the Turbo Control solenoids.

can you remove the turbo control solenoids with out removing the manifold? how many solenoids are there? how many turbo control solenoids for that matter?

I took off the black box on my FD to get a better look. There are two solenoids bolted onto the UIM, and you only have to remove the black box to access them. All you have to do is unbolt them, but I would still suggest doing the vacuum hose job if you have the time.

You can get to them without removing the manifold. 2 solenoids. 1 Precontrol. 1 Boost control.

The are 2 Turbo Control Solenoids.

There are really a total of six solenoids that directly control the sequential system:

Turbo Control (pressure side)
Turbo Control (vacuum side)
Turbo Precontrol
Wastegate Control
Charge Control
Charge Relief

These aren't all the solenoids.

If you don't have a manual, you should get one.
