Are the fans working? if yes and the water pump belt is tight you may need to flush the system and ,or replace the water pump

You probably have just ruined your motor..You cannot let a rotary engine run into the red. If the needle gets past 3/4 of the way up you shut the car off and open the hood. Then take it to a shop. The fan/s probably failed 250.00 dollars. You now overheated your engine 5500.00

Once the needle goes past mid way it takes about 1 to 2 minutes to go into the red...If it's shutting off I believe it's overheating..

Sounds like an overheating issue to me. Think about it; you overheat the core of the 13b which runs fine at normal operating temperatures right? What happens to the long block when it overheats? it warps (among other things) if you run a warped block for long (IF it runs) you are going to have all sorts of nasty problems.

Sounds like an overheated motor to me. How is the overflow tank water level? If you are up in the redzone, that is way too hot, That is way past 230F. ouch.

Your thermostat could be stuck closed or open. Replace it.

I second the thermostat argument by joeyz87. Check that ****, and check your water pump belt to make sure it's not overtight (which can prematurely wear out the pump, causing overheating). If you're in doubt, after you've checked these things, get it to a reliable rotary mechanic and have them check things out. It's piece of mind that's worth it.
