Is there a trick for ALT pully removal?

I'm trying to trade out my alt. pully... I'm looking for a way to get the nut off w/ basic hand tools anyone know... I've tried tightening the belt then yanking on it but that didn't do much.
TIA,
Ryker

I tried to tighten the belt and then shove rags in the pulleys to make it tighter but it always slips. I finally took it off the car and drive it to a NAPA auto part store and have them get it off for free with their impact wrench.
